Aldehyde filter. Worth it?
#3
I don't know on the whole Mazda vs. other band but my car has the best filtering I've experienced. Or maybe it's just the best recirclation, either way, dump truck and lawnmower never make it in the cabin no mater how much grass or smoke the blow my way.

Yes it is worth it. Mazda was one of the few to pioneer the Aldehyde filter in production cars if I recall correctly. They have a great advantage at filtering pollutants over charcoal filters. Less exhaust fumes, less window fogging, less allergens, etc.

I said Mazda vs others is because Mazda don't make the filters. you can get those aldehyde filter for rx8 for less than 20 bux aftermarket, the price Mazda ask for is just plain highway robbery.

Make one yourself from the DIY. Easy and only costs $10 and you can make like 10 of them for that price. Just recently did it after replacing mine years ago and it was so worth it.

I had my rx8 for 6 years and one of the first "mods" was to get the aldehyde filter. The cabin almost never got stinky.
Don't know if this has anything to do with it or not, but my RX-8 AC also did not develope that mildew smell until the 6th yr just before I traded it lol...
My other cars including my 2011 bimmer all got smelly A/C within a few months...none had/have aldehyde filter installed. =[
