To all the haters... I did it... LOL

My car has the 18 inch wheels and such... it did have a steel/metal drive shaft but I changed it when I did the swap therefore I believe the carbon/metal drive shaft differences depend on the type transmission. O... and btw about my punctuation... I start college in a couple weeks, I will worry about it then, not on a forum page........... lol ;-) But yea I am fixing to order a reman motor from mazda... 2000 dollars minus my fathers wholesale discount thing so I should get it for around 17-1800 I figure I should be able to sell my 4 port engine (has between 1500-2000 miles on it) and should be able to sell the tranny also... One issue I am having is with my brakes, and yes... I did the swap on the ABS unit. But im having problems with the right front locking instead of traction control kicking on. I have bled them a few times and have no ABS light on. Any ideals?

Refreshments anyone? Perhaps a snack, or some refreshments?
If I am considered a hater for real world logical advice, then so be it. No one said it was impossible. We may have said it was unlikely, and that even if you did do it, what would you have to show for it? Two hacked up cars, one with a plethora of electrical problems that will likely plague it for the duration of ownership without some serious time put into troubleshooting. And a car with lesser performance than one you could have simply bought.
Having 3 grand in the car is great and all. But most people's time is worth something too. I guess if you're still a student and have plenty of spare time then you came out alright. For all the hours spent pondering the swaps, performing the swap, troubleshooting the swap and subsequent electrical and mechanical issues, I could personally justify that extra 2-3 grand and buy a nicer/less rigged car. Rx8s can be had for 5-6k if you look long enough...a friend of mine bought one that runs and drives pretty well and is pretty straight for 5k a few months back.
Congratulations on your "achievement" I guess, but don't break your arm patting yourself on the back.

If you guys haven't noticed, this guy right here has THE BEST and most random pics! Man...you kill me!
Anyways, congrats on the mostly succesful swap. I just rebuilt my tranny so I know the work involved. Not everyone may get it, but there is a real sense of accomplishment for doing something like that. Good work!
Oh, and you're going back to college, huh? You're not an english major, are you? A little punctuation goes a far way, at least with credibility. You did a major project here, but it looks like my 8 year-old nephew wrote this. Just saying. You're better than this, man.

Im running 80w90 royal purple in the 6 speed tranny, and pennsoil 10w30 in the engine. A guy at the mazda dealer said not to run synthetic? I run mobil 1 in my mercedes... can you guys clear this up? whether it is bad to run synthetic?

To the OP, again, nice job. I had to stop back in here to see if you had any additional info on the swap.

As far as the swap goes, I have the car complete. With the exception of swapping the 6 port engine back to the car when it comes in. I am planning on ordering it thursday. I love the way the car handles. Only problem I am having besides the engine is the ABS is having some problems. I do not have an ABS light on... but its not working to smoothly. I have a question for rotaryresurection though, what makes you say that I will have issues with the car threwout my ownership of it? You did the swap... I mean I even went to the extent of changing ALL the wiring... I'm not being negitive, but what else could I have issues with? I mean sure, I have to work a few things out in it, but as of now, after doing the engine swap I do not see any long term problems. Also guys, my car has cloth interior... A guy offered to trade me his leather interior to mine for $100 bucks?

^^yeah the leather interior is super heavy (55lbs. each seat). I've been trying to sell mine for a while with no luck. If you want leather then that is a good deal, assuming the leather isn't torn or worn out anywhere.

Where are you from? I actually have a full set of cloth that I would sell very very cheap... A couple of the door panels are not like the best... they are prob a 6-7 out of 10... but yea

I'm in Hollywood/ft lauderdale area but I'm saving for racing seats and a roll cage. I'm trying to subtract as much weight as possible. I'm even trashing my a/c and radio when I get a daily driver.

As for the leather seats, I think that's a phenomenal deal. I love my leather, but I had no idea they were so heavy! The RX8 cloth seats are really nice. I had the two-tone grey and black ones in my first RX8. I wouldn't mind them, but the leather does give the car a more classy look. I'd say go for the leather unless you don't want the extra weight. What's the weight difference between the two, anyways?

Alright so heres my thoughts... After doing the auto/manual swap I would never do it to a car that did not have problems to begin with (thus mine was a flood car) So if you want a 5 speed car I would do this... I would buy a 6 speed 6 port car, (after doing some research to see if the 5 speed would fit up to it) The only plugs on the tranny that I remember were 4 wires that were for the back up lights I believe. If I was you... and I wanted a 5 speed car. I would make a 6 port 5 speed car, rather than decreasing in power and going to a 4 port. I am not negitive about the automatic to manual swap. I just wouldnt want to do it again... Was ALOT of work, and if your car doesnt have problems to begin with then it would be cheaper to just sell it and buy a car. The project is very doable. If you need any info, just PM me.
