All I see are problems associated with the RX8... why should I buy one?
#51
The only problem I have faced thus far is the a/c. It simply is awful on my car. I guess I am one of the unlucky ones. I am sure once Mazda figures it out, I can take my car in and get it working right. I admit, after I bought it I joined the forum, and from what I read I started regretting buying one now instead of waiting until car was out for a while. It is a sports car, and it's is a first year production, so you have to prepare yourself for some unlucky moments, and trips to dealer. Many of us haven't had to deal with it, but many of us have. My recommendation is to test drive one, and make an objective opinion on the bugs this car may have, and whether it's worth it to you. The way I figure it is after 3 or 4 years if the car gives me too much trouble, I can trade it in, and try another. Buying any new car is a risk, buying a first year production $30k sports car is an even bigger one. There are so many things to factor in like gas mileage, maintanence costs, ect. The rx8 is a great machine, but is definitely not for everyone, so I'd definitely shop around and compare cars before making a decision. You may find a car better suited for your needs. Good luck!!

I have no regrets--except sound system
I've had mine for 6 months, & I love it!!! I have had a few warning lights come on, but that's because it was time for service. I have had zero problems w/ my loaded rx8. Nav system is accurate. My only beef is that the BOSE IS A PATHETIC EXCUSE of "premium sound." I'm modifying soon.

Guess I'm 1 out of 10 today
See why no one talks about stuff that doesn't break....it sounds ridiculous and no one cares :D :D

Other than the fact that they look great and they are fun to drive, where is the real advantage to buying one if they are going to have numerous problems in the NEAR future as it seems??

Well look at it this way. I KNEW about POTENTIAL problems, and I STILL bought my car last month. Nothing was gonna stop me. NOTHING. I've only had 1 problem and it was the car ran out of gas, and I didn't know it due to an improperly installed float at the factory. No problems other than this.
If you really want a car, you'll get it. My family has owned several RX-7's and I will say they're not the most maintenance free cars in the world, but they are by no means UNRELIABLE.

I started this thread last May, and then decided to purchase an RX8 anyway. It seems to be running great so far, and the only problems I have had is cracked defroster buttons and a broken center console... both covered under Mazda warranty.
At the time, I was looking at a VW R32, Acura TL A Spec, and the RX8. I like the R32 performance wise, but I wasnt crazy about the exterior and german build. The TL A spec is a bad *** car, but I had previously owned a Maxima and I wanted something a little more sporty and fun to drive. Im very happy with my purchase for a number of reasons:
1. Mazda builds a great car and the engine was named best of the year.
2. Great exterior looks
3. Supreme handling
4. Comfortable interior ergonomics
5. A good amount of aftermarket parts available
6. And most of all, I love being 19 and watching girls stare at me as I drive by... hahahaha... Im sure any guys on here know exactly what im talking about.

I won't go into the saga of the upholstery, seat heaters, entire dash replacement, 6 window regulators (note - it's a 2-door car, do the math), transmission, a/c compressor (for the second time, now), headlamp adjusters, the clearcoat on the rims, belt tensioner (it's a wear-and-tear item, but failed without warning before it's replacement interval was due), keyless remotes, glovebox door, glovebox hinges (twice, until I fixed them myself), armrest console latch (4 times), fuel line, fuel pump (I actually blame the dealer for breaking this while 'fixing' the line, and not 'fessing up), mirror glass, antenna gasket, battery, turn signal lenses, rear cupholder, rear centre seatbelt retractor (twice), front door speakers, ignition switch and probably an equivalent number of other things that I've repressed memory of.
Over 135,000mi, I've spent an *average* of $1000.00/year in additional maintenance above and beyond routine maintenance, upgrades and warranty work. My reaction has gone from "Oh, what the f--- now!?!?!?" to <sigh>"Whatever...."
Dealer service is abysmal. The sort of thing that any normal person/place would get fired for or go out of business for. They survive on a constant flow of new customers, with their repeat business being people who are too blind (or too blindly loyal) to know any better. I'll admit - if I didn't know what I know now, I'd be buying another VW because they suit me better than anything else I could afford, and the Golf/GTI has the right hatchback form-factor for me.
The Golf R32 is absolutely everything I wanted in a car.....5 years ago. I was in a dealer, fondling an R32 and a*l*m*o*s*t ready to drink the kool-aid again. Then, as I was sitting in it, I looked around the interior and everything my eyes landed on I remembered how it broke/rattled/cost me $$$ in my GTI. I couldn't do it. I walked away (killed me to turn my back on the hatch, all-wheel-drive and 240HP).
Hatch or no hatch, I want an '05 RX-8, white, touring. I'll have to rely on a custom receiver hitch to pull a class I trailer, and Yakima roof bars/basket for my occasional cargo/ski gear needs.

Folks you picked the right manufacturer..just post the problems you see and let the right people see it and address it. The problems WILL be taken up the ladder and corrected.

I didn't bother to read through all of the post--my experience with my RX8 has been faultless--I haven't had any problems at all with my RX8. People bring what ever problems they have to a forum to seek help--therefore problems look magnified.
