For all you asking "should I buy an RX-8" ?
I have a 2005 manual. Absolutely love this car. It gets more compliments than I could have ever imagined. But we all know the RX-8 is a beauty and unlike any other. So no need in pointing out the obvious.
The thing I chuckle at on this forum are all those with performance concerns.
I can't tell you the number of times I have cold started. The number of times I cold started and cut it off immediately. I say this with caution for I have no wood to knock on. But I have not had any issues with flooding or other engine problems. I have no had to add oil, but I change the oil regularly.
I wouldn't consider myself a hard driver. I baby it probably too much. But do try several times a week to have fun. The highest I've gotten the RPM's is arounf 6500. Just too old to try anything more!!
It's the best decision I ever made back in Feb to purchase this vehicle. Mazmart hooked me up with a winner and I'm truly thankful. Plus, got the chance to meet a great guy. My wife and I were/are very impressed with this fellow Mazda friend!!
So, quit talking about it and go do it. Get you RX-8 and go have fun!!! You and the gas station will become great buds!!

you should redline it every now and then... it's good for the car. The dealer will confirm it if you think I'm talking out of my ***.
I believe most of the engine replacements were caused by people babying their engines too much.

Actually, when i bought my car into service a few months ago to have the ignition coils replaced, the dealer told me to red-line it as much as possible..
