Alpine SWR-1242D (TYPE R)
#2
really dude? why do you keep posting stupid threads? first off the alpine type R is a peice of junk. like i said, stay away from best buy, and research crutchfield.
but to answer the question you need a mono block amp that can put out 500 watts RMS at 2 ohms.
so if you want something cheap because thats what it looks like your trying to do here, get this.
http://www.crutchfield.com/p_777M150....html?tp=35834
its a new brand but i have heard a few good things about them.
NOW NO MORE POINTLESS QUESTIONS

Actually the alpine type-r is a great sub my friend had 2x12" type-r's and they were pretty awesome. Very sturdy rubber around the cone and they hit real hard. I have never had a problem with them and the reviews on the site speak very positively about them also.
I was telling him the alpine would be nice with a rockford amp and he found http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_...s+Package.html which is everything you would need at a damn good price.
Also bestbuy carrys kicker, alpine, and infinity which are all respectable brands. They do also carry POS/cheap brands like sony xplod so stay away from bestbuy, yes and no. Although I wouldnt go there and buy my subs.

yes i would agree the type-R is a decent subwoofer, but this is coming from me who has owned just about everything, JL W7, RE XXX, alpine Type X, kicker L7... so to me, the type R is the typical of the shelf noob sub that can hit hard, which people who dont know sound will hear and think its the most bomb thing they have every heard. which is why i like to build systems that hit hard but more importantly hit accuratly.
for this kid, any amp that can provide atleast 70% of the rms power required will work. im assuming he is just looking for something to go boom

Yea I think thats all he wants, I have been helping him through PM's. I'm not an expert on subs by any means, first sub was a pawn shop sony xplod lol. Then I got a set of rockford p2's in a rockford box and those were all I ever needed. I also just wanted something to go boom and didnt need any sound other than bass coming form the subs.
In one of his other threads someone mentioned running the power wire through the gap for the hood and the door, I did that in my first ever install because the hole in my firewall wasnt big enough for the wire to fit through. It was in another car though not the 8.
I am trying to steer him away from this, he says his cousin can install it but I think unless his cousin knows exactly how it needs to be done he needs to take it somewhere and shell out some cash for a proper job. I learned the hard way that a hill billy wiring job wont work forever and saving money now will cost you more money later.

^^^ this is a true fact, i have always done my own wiring and it really is a simple job, i have drilled my own holes many times, i once sent the power wire to the trunk by quite literally running it through the fram of the car. anyways it seems like you know what your talking about so give this guy the best you can haha
