Alright Guys, I Need Some Advice.

Ok, so I just got this o4 rx8 w/24k on it...

I checked compression today and the front rotor only had 30lbs. I know that the car is still under warranty but it has a greddy turbo kit and exhaust. And I wouldnt have a problem putting it back to stock but I dont have any of the factory parts (i bought it this way) so I would end up having to track down everything in hopes that it would be acceptable for warranty. Or, I found a used engine that would set me back about 2,700 bucks with 12k on it. And my last option is just attempting to rebuild it myself. What do you guys think I should do?

How much mechanical experience do you have? Would you be doing all the labor? Will you have the funds to pay for for everything? Getting all the parts to put it back to stock could be easy if someone saved and wants to get rid of them. Then you could put FI back if you wanted. How much time do you have and do you want to do it your self.

That used engine sounds like the best option .

Well, I figured my only option for getting all of the stock parts would be to buy them from the same place I could get the engine from. Im just guessin when I say that the parts will probably be around 500 bucks, but that money could just go towards replacing the engine. On the other hand, if Mazda decides they will warranty it.. I will obviously have a new engine. Im just not sure how picky they are when it comes to warranties. Say for example that I decide to keep the oil pedistle that has the fittings for the oil temp/oil pressure gauges... would that keep me from getting a new engine? I could seriously nickle and dime myself just trying to get this thing back to stock trim.

why did you do the compression check? secondly- you need to get a better one. we need to see numbers for front and rear rotors as well as all 3 chambers of each rotor.

also since Mazda regularly monitors this forum you have just told them that the 2nd owner of yellow rx-8 with a black hood in nevada who just took a turbo kit off the car might come in looking for a new engine based on a non-rotary standard compression test.

hehehe :)

Nice

Sounds like you already know the score. If you want a chance of getting it done as warranty work, you need to first have a valid Renesis compatible compression test done, through a Mazda approved service center so the results can be applied to your claim, and ti needs to show that you do have a failure. And if you want to increase your chances that repairs will be done as warranty work you need to have stock parts on the car to reduce the chances that warranty gets voided if it isn't already.

It's a game of odds at this point. All I can offer you is good luck. I hope you can get things fixed up for a reasonable price.
