Am I lucky or what?

Here’s short list of issues with my 2004 6sp 45K.

Ongoing – car at the dealership at this moment:

45K – Loss of power, feels like no/flat power above 4/5K. Tech suspect clogged catalytic converter.
45K – Radiator light came on (happens when I’m in 4th and above 4K rpm). Tech told me that whole coolant tank/assembly has to be replaced.

In the past:

45K – Squeaking sounds when depressing clutch pedal. Clutch pedal assembly replaced under warranty.
42K – Unable to control AC/heater temperature it’s either max. cold or max. hot. AC/Heater control block replaced under warranty.
40K – Rough idle / vibrates at idle. Engine mount (right one?) replaced under warranty.
40K – Passenger seat plastic side panel coming off. Replaced under warranty.
40K – Squeaking sounds from suspension when turning. Front Stabilizer bushings replaced under warranty (did not help).
40K – Broken Parking Lever Cover. Replaced under warranty.
40K – Water condensate in rear right light cluster. Repaired (re-sealed) under warranty.
40K - Very weak AC / rough idle when AC is on. AC recharged under warranty (did not help). AC amplifier installed under warranty (somewhat better).
34K – Rumbling noise when fan is on. Heater fan blower tightened under warranty.
34K – Squeaking sounds from suspension when turning. Sway bar bushings lubed w/ silicone grease under warranty (did not help).
14K – Engine flooded. New battery and leading spark plugs installed under warranty.

All the maintenance done. All fluids changed every 15K / 1.5 years and so on.
No mods.

Very soon it will be out of b-t-b warranty and in a year or so powertrain warranty will expire too.
Looks like extended warranty is the only choice for me?

Most of those are standard TSBs.

I was about to say the same thing.

Hopefully you stop having so many issues, though!

That would be nice
But having that many electrical problems very weired - after all this one is "Made in Japan" car

I picked RX-8 over S2000 for two extra seats and overall civility.
Putting carseats in the back it very easy and it does not beat you up on the long trips as S2000 does.

Still the total number of visits to the Mazda dealership is simply amazing, I already know ppl there by their first and last names.

I have that clutch squeaking problem but they told me my clutch was fine. I would rather go aftermarket than trust anything mazda would put in, seeing as how they have gone out of their way to cheat me out of as much money as possible.

careful if your clutch pedal is squeaking..

https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-trouble-shooting-95/clutch-pedal-snap-off-8-year-warranty-recall-%7E%7E%7E-132912/

the biggest tell tale sign that the clutch pedal is ready to go is squeaking.. get that checked out asap.

Not even close... your powertrain will last till 60k miles. And your emissions (cat) warranty will last 10-20k miles after that (I forget the exact number)

8/80 for emissions and 6/60 for powertrain.

I know how it is, I called the dealer the other day and they new what car I drove after saying my first name.

I also know the names of five guys there... and when I leave I always say that I will see them soon

Could be worse, I have gone through a tranny and a cat, next is the motor, jk.

Looks like I'm getting new engine.

Any estimates on how long those rebuilt engines lasts?

Looks like this rebuilt engine won't make it to it's first oil change.

Just hilarious

Original engine failed at 45,665
I have now 50,850
So rebuilt engine failed exactly after 5,185 miles

The damn service light comes at around 6K and service manual says change oil every 7.5K
I guess Mazda have no clue about these engines.

But how would you explain the fact that original engine was running just fine on 7.5K interval for so long?

What exactly changing oil earlier would prevent?

It's not like I had performance degrading over long time - it feels / felt just like something broke instantly.
Also I add 1Qt of oil every 1K or so - according my records 4 Qt of oil was added since rebuilt engine was installed meaning half of oil volume replaced already.

I'm really puzzled - I drive 8 miles to work and exactly 8 miles back 90% of them is h/w cruising at 75 mph, never rev above 4-5K until engine fully worm, use only Shell premium gas, check oill every other gas fill-up - what the heck is wrong with it?

And the really sad part is that I like this car, this is the first car I own and I like it the way it is, do not want to change anything. Car seems to have different thoughts thou

Unless I'm wrong, and it happens frequently, the powertrain warranty was extended from 4 years/50k miles to 5 years/60k miles.

So, no 6/60 powertrain warranty.

Anyone?

I should so know this.

Thats why everyone here recommends it every 3,000 miles, are you sure that wasnt in kilometers?

Do you mean "Mazda HAS no clue about these engines"? Thats why they're the only one that makes it

It wouldve probably prevented your FIRST engine from failing, let alone your second

Research more on proper care
