When I see another RX8 in a parking lot no matter where I am, I automatically look the car over for a couple specific mods just to see if the owner is new to the car or perhaps a forum reader who like me, took the advice of others for add ons, or group buys over the years.

First thing I always glance at is the front end looking for oil cooler screens. Second is fender strakes and emblems from the early days of Derwankle (i think it was) before the demand for his products eventually overwhelmed him and he quit. Next is exhaust mods.

On the military base where I work I had the 1st RX8. Now, 5 1/2 yrs later, there are about a dozen different ones. And only 1 other has any mods at all. Which begs the question, "Would I still have a stock car if I had never joined this forum?" I don't know the answer, but I am glad I did, I think. . .

When I had my 6 and was over on the Mazda 6 forum we had the debadged look and would remove the door guards which was a sign that the driver was a member.

If it werent for this forum I would never have gotten started with tracking the 8 and the money pit which it entails

i always do the samething.

look over for exhaust, and interior mods...shift ****, perhaps if i can notice a short shifter...

but its always a must.

 

I only look for a front mount intercooler, everything else is just eh.

 

^haha I'm yet to see one with a front mount myself just randomly looking at 8(have only seen one at a meet once)

OP I do the same thing and if I get a change to talk to anyone with an 8 usually with 5 min of talkin to them I have asked them if they're on the club if not i send em here...but I agree you don't see tooo many 8's that are modded there are 2 in my school parking lot and im the only modded one....and I just have a few things....for now.....

yeah, if they don't have clear corners I write them off as an oblivious rx-8 owner who doesn't have any interest in the car.

but not the clear corners for some reaosn im fine with the amber on my wb i understand its an eyesore on other colors but it doesnt bother me on mine so i guess thats why i havent changed it.............yet

 

I'm stock, too. For now. But I always look over the car. Pulled into a lot not too long ago where there were 2 other VR 8s. And you better believed I looked both over before I went in the theater for a date!

 

I do the same thing also.. Most of the time I'm left with disappointment, its like getting a big present for christmas when your a kid and you've been asking for that new "remote control monster truck". Then when you open the box you slightly notice its a giant pop up picture book... <- True story...


I think I'm going to make up some rx-8 club business cards and slip them under peoples windshield wipers. Then if they join they wont be such an oblivious rx8 owner..

 

+1. If I see no mods, I just figure they are like me and are happy with the car like it is - personal taste. If everyone had the same mods, someone would be posting a thread here bitching about that - no way to win.

I know from personal experience that being a member of a forum like this can and does cost you money you never thought you'd be spending though. When I bought my Harley, I was perfectly happy with it the way it was. Joined a forum and realized all of the possibilities and have spent thousands of dollars as a result. Not copying other people but just getting ideas and applying them in my own way.

Same thing here, should I get clear corners because someone else says they are a must or should I get them because I want and like them? (rhetorical question).

 

^ I completely understand what your saying here. The stock 8 is a great car by itself without any mods. But in your case WWP with clear corners just gives its a sharper look. ESP with the tint job that you have, I give you thumbs up on clear corners. Plus for $70 you cant go wrong, if youi decide you dont like them there will always be a member here in need..

NOpe, when i see another rx8 int he parking lot, i say " there goes another rx8 owner who is going to be whining about the RX8 at the rx8club.com."

 

^the only time i hear whinning is between 7-9k rpms

 

I also look for the butt ugly 16" rims. If the car has them, my opinion of the driver goes way down.

Hey, I'm stock. Not lazy, just poor.

Whenever I see another 8, I usually check to see if it's an AT, for S&Gs, then just kinda see what else is on there casually. I won't stop walking to look it over, I'll see whatever I can while walking by.

 

i look for clear corners, lowering springs, tints, and kits.........

 

I do it all the time as well, but I look for nice set of wheels and body kit modifications.
