The annoying little things
Now we all know that this car isnt all peaches and cream. Theres a sticky above showing the positives of the car but in reality, there are also negatives. What little thing dont u like about the car that u wished mazda would have improved on? For me its:
1-Climate control where every position except the front vents get a/c wether u like it
or not
2-The fuel consumption
3-closing the windows/sunroof requires u to hold the button down instead of auto.
4-The heated seats really dont get that heated compared to other manufacturers.
5-The trunk doesnt open aTl the way when u press trunk release button.
6-The head unit is integrated into the dash leaving u no options for an after market
stereo
Anyone else like to contribute to this list?

I wish I could be positive and add things to your list, but the sad truth is there's not much I don't like about the car! (And my heated seats get plenty toasty.) The one thing I'd love to have are real, functioning gauges for engine coolant and, especially, oil pressure.

#1 item: Douchebag newbies who don't know anything about the car coming into this forum and asking stupid questions about the car.
Add on to your list:
- Transporter tie-down points under the car just ahead of the rear axle that scrape on car wash tracks.
- The stupidest/most poorly designed sunvisors known to man.
- Having a car that requires frequent oil checks and additions with a buried dipstick and hidden filler tube.
- The "flat fix" kit that actually ruins the tire.
Oh, there's a few more but ...
That said, I really do love driving my car and love how it looks. I think I'll wax it today.

People on the outside who don't get the obsession with this car. The shake their heads and look at me as if I've lost my mind....
The oil dipstick has to be #1 stupid design with the sun visors a close second.
Placement of the seat heater switches ensures that I'll turn then on once in a while by accident.
The lame HVAC system is on the list.
These become quirks in a lovable car...

And what do you mean about #1? That's one I don't understand.

I'm starting to notice that you have a severe anger problem. I would say 50% of the posts by you are filled with rage. I think a psychiatrist is in order....

That's pretty much the only thing about the car that brought a "Yuck" instead of a "Wow!"
#2 - too bad. The numbers are written big on a sticker in the window.
#3 - safety deal. Can't have stuff close automatically. AFAIK, no car in the US does that. Too many toddlers get strangled by windows as it is.
#4 - don't have heated seats in mine. Eat lots of beans, keep your tush warm naturally.
#5 - most cars don't do that these days. It's a shame, because that's how I used to find rental cars in parking lots.
#6 - the radio is good. Why change it? I love the placement of the controls, and the "find six strong stations" feature.

i have a JDM spec, and the driver's power window can wind up with 1 touch.
i think its some safety restriction for US specs.
btw, the sunroof cant do a 1 touch close either..
But im prety sure there is a way to DIY this.. becos i think 1 touch close sunroof is prety handy.

I agree with most of the previous, especially the short Dipstick.
Needs lighted sunroof switches.
Needs lighted change holder-can't see to find anything in it.
I love the car but they missed some relatively simple usability issues that could easily be fixed.
Oh, and some insulation under the cab would have been an excellent addition that would solve several issues.

probably.. but if we put our heads together, we could come up with some cool DIYs..
for example, if u have tried to replace the navi screen with an aftermarket like a touch screen, the open /close switches will not work, u cant have auto open on ignition and u cant have auto power on/off when the housing close/open. but ive got some1 that did it for me. every button works like factory, but with touch screen installed.
if u wanna see a short video of it (222KB)pm me yr email.

For some reason, in the past 2-3 months, this board has been filled with morons that are making incredibly stupid questions or making incredibly stupid statements such as "I'm thinking about an RX-8, but I hear the engines only last 30,000 miles" or "I just bought a used '04 RX-8 with 25,000 miles on it, and I want to make sure it makes it to 50,000 miles" or "I just bought an RX-8 and it must have something wrong with it as it went through a quart of oil in just 1000 miles! Do you think Mazda will warranty it?"
Now that many of us 1st and 2nd year of production owners are starting to trade out, the car has hit the secondary market, which appears to be nothing but 17-22 year old ricer wannabes.
No rage, just sick of the new generation of morons. I guess this was meant to be, but in the past 3 months, this website has completely jumped the shark in terms of the quality of the folks visiting it. Those that have the $$$ to buy one new seem to be intelligent and thoughtful and knowledgeable. Those mining the used market for deals, tend not to be.
Just as well that my lease ends in 14 months ...

How about a gas cap holder? I put some high quality velcro on it.

Take it easy. I find what you said really offensive. Though it might be true, it doesn't apply to everyone. I am 18 years old, but I was a freshmen in highschool when I first heard of the new Mazda sports car; that year I figured I would have enough money by college to afford one.
I doubt that age is really the problem. Anyway, for you "experienced" people here who owned the first cars, was there an rx8club full of smart, knowledgeable, wise, and helpful members when the rx8 first came out? I bet it took a while, and now that there is a huge resource, people of course will flock to it for easy answers. These guys new to the cars, whether they be old or new, just weren't around for all the initial and subsequent Q&A that has already happened.
Just ignore, or ban, and keep the GOOD threads alive damnit (smiley face)

Maybe these noobs should read and use search? It is not like the Q&A's disappeared into the Bermuda Triangle.

This thread is terribly misleading…
The problem with this thread is that it exists at all. I'm not saying it doesn't have a right to be here; of course it does. But it's terribly misleading. The classic "little things" thread that someone started ages ago makes sense, because it reflects a true insight about the RX-8: there are many, many wonderful and subtle "little things" that are not obvious about the car, but when you do notice them, they make you feel really good about owning an 8. And they're mostly unique to the RX-8. What's more, the subtle positive "little things" are completely consistent with the 8's personality, which is all about a kind of subtle pleasure, for lack of a better term. The smoothness of the Renesis, the scalpel-like handling, the balance, the amazing agility—unlike sheer hp and torque, these are subtle qualities that kind of define the car's personality.
Having a thread titled "The annoying little things," while logical, is very misleading, because it strongly suggests—erroneously—that everyone knows there are lots of annoying little things about the car. Of course there are some, as with any car but, while all cars have things we like and dislike about them, the 8 has so many surprising "little things" that separate it from other cars. It's those delightful and unexpected "little things" that make the 8 the unique car it is. So IMHO, "the annoying little things" is NOT simply a list of negatives to balance the "little things" list of positives—it's merely a list of niggling complaints. Yes, every car has "annoying little things," but not many have the "little things" the RX-8 has.
Just my 2˘.
