The only thing I can say that is annoying about my car is that the doors have a small rattle it seems to be where they meet. It's really quite, but just one of the things you notice. Also, the steering wheel is really close to the seat even when all the way up, I am not too short (5'11"), but with how far the seat needs to be forward it makes it hard to get in and out. Especially if I park 2" from a curb to stay away from other cars.

I would have to agree. I do use the close steering wheel to my advantage when exiting the car though. I use it as leverage (SP) to propel out of the car so I don't wear down my seat bolster.

I know....it's really stupid.....

Aw, Husky, why the bad buzz here? Is it just because I pointed out more than a few times that you don't know what you're talking about when it comes to the RX-8?

For the record:

1) I am a dick - a mean, fat, bald old bastard, married 21 years with 3 kids, who drives RX-8s just to make all the little 22 year old ashwipes who buy them used think "CRAP, it's an old bald-man's car!

2) I will mercilessly point out when anyone is talking BS and point out the REAL world based upon owning 4 rotary-powered cars in my lifetime, AND having owned this one from brand new, over 3 years of use and 35,000 miles.

Husky, I've read all your posts that you put up putting the bash on me. A few of them had points - my tone has not been appropriate of late.

So, make you a deal: you stop giving out unfounded advice to the noobs coming into the site and I'll quit firing nuclear missles at the idoits in here and instead just stick to pointing out where people have the story wrong. Which, by the way, will still paint me as an old fart, a dick, a grumpy old man and about 20 other names that all the wet-behind-the-ears noobs have called me in the last 24 hrs.

But, oh well ... the quest for right information must never be abandoned.

no hard feelings, Stew. Bashing on a forum is stupid and juvenile.....Im sorry I lowered myself.

The advice I give is based upon things that are related to the recommended care Mazda gives the RX-8. The fact of the matter is that Mazda does request a higher octane than 87. I'm sure you can get away with 87, but with a company notorious for poor customer service and warranty issues, I have no doubt that not going by manufacturer's recommendations will be reasoning enough in Mazda USA's eyes to reject a potential warranty claim.

5w20 is also recommended by the manufacturer. No doubt, you can use 5w30 or a greater weight, but I don't see any real advantage.

Other than that, I don't think I have said anything that is not true regarding the 8. If I have, please let me know. I'm always open to criticism, as long as it's done in a respectable manner.

Peace?

The annoying little things...

These types of threads spawned by owner love of the car...geez

Old debates that seem to never die (87 vs 91, dino vs synth, 350z vs RX8 which actually kinda dates back to RX7 vs 280z from 1979).

My car paint is starting to look 4 yrs old (well more like 2 yrs old but it isn't brand new)

All the dumb repeat threads due to not using the search feature

Passenger automated seat missing (yes I realize it was to save $'s and who cares cuz I never ride passenger)

All the hot chicks that check out my ride (I'm married)...

2 annoying things i find in the rx8:

1. doors that won't stay open. you have to open it all the way or hold it to keep it from closing. a little dangerous especially when transporting children.

2. windshield washers that don't help out in cleaning the windshield at all. it doesn't spray, rather it squirts four straight lines of fluid that only reach halfway up the windshield.

*this isn't annoying but could be an improvement: the throw on the shifter. pretty damn long for a sports car.

other than those 2 the car is perfect imo.

FYI on the windshield washers, those are easily aimed.

yo mike...about the shift throw...compared to which other sports cars. Just curious.
I've only driven OEM MT on miata, celica, Jeep, civic, lancer all from early 2000 version so I'm not experienced.

Now Jeep (not a sports car of course) but that there's a long shift throw.

Ditto from me. C4 corvette throw was longer, subie was longer, Acura Integra was longer, 95 VW GTI felt like I was rowing a rowboat instead of a transmission. The only car I've ever driven with a shorter shifter stock was my '93 FD (RX7).

I think the shifter is super tight and short stock.

At least it isn't that godawful bent shifter that Mustangs used to have.

Shifter is equally short as what you get in a typical high-end sports car - same as the one in an Acura NSX, or other sports machines.

This one is pretty legitimate!!!

Having a car that requires frequent oil checks and additions with a buried dipstick and hidden filler tube.

I had a 2002 Mits Eclipse RS MT as my last car. All I did was switch the shift **** around (didn't touch the shifter at all), and it had a much shorter throw than the RX-8. The throw was great

In comparison to some of the other sports cars out there, though (Mustang and Corvette come to mind), I think the throw is much shorter. The shifters in these types of cars look like giant boners sticking out of the console.

If we were riding around in a 2007 Corvette Z06 or a Lotus Elise, I can see some jealousy. but I doubt there is much jealousy out there over an 8.

Maybe they are whipped by their wife or girlfriend who won't let them buy an impractical car.

Or maybe they have multiple kids.

Or perhaps they already blew their money on a Crossfire and are upside down on the loan.

When I drive my dad's 95 911, I cant stand how long the throw is. It is unbearable. Anyways, if you dont like the throw get a shortshifter. If you dont like it, they have crazy resale values!

I agree the RX8 shifter has a slightly longer throw than I anticipated. My 05 Mazdaspeed Miata had the shortest and most direct throw of any shifter I have ever had. I could literally flick the shifter from one gear to the otlher with my finger tips.
Fast and not one bit notchy.

I'm sure once I get used to my new 07 VR RX8 MT all will be well. Just picked it up on 6/1 and overall impressed with the car. I've owned 2 Rotarys in the past, so I pretty much knew what to expect.

the car that i used to drive before this (rsx s) was shorter. CIVIC Si, s2000, celica gts, evo mr, 02+ m3. just irrititated me that the i upgraded to a better car that has a longer throw than my old car. and, that has a longer throw than a freakin civic.

and that's why the very first thing i bought for my car is an AFE short shifter.

stew - i didn't know it was possible to aim the windshield washers, thanks.

the ones mentioned are all good. the one I haven't seen is how incredibly UNsensitive (in-sensitive? whichever) the turn signal is. damn thing only shuts off automatically on turns 90 degrees or more. Prlly once a month I end up looking like some damn granny rolling down the road for a mile w/my blinker on. well, sort of like granny - if she were doing 10 or 15mph over . . .

and g-dammit this thread seemed to me like a lighthearted one based on OP's post, why all the "sell your car" bs??

I, like most people, am a member of a bunch of different forums; RX8 club, Jeep forums, Gun forums, etc. The problem here isn't noobs coming in and ruining it, or people asking dumb questions. The problem is that the RX8 forum has so little to talk about.

As crazy as that idea sounds, it's true. We argue about stupid small **** and feel bad for each other when the dealership won't pay for our repairs out of boredom. We talk about the same mods over and over again, we repost dumb videos until the entire world has seen them.

Our cars have been around for barely 4 years and quite honestly there's not too much to say about them compared to guys that have been wrenching on their Jeeps for the past 60 years, or collecting guns since the 1940's.

Our cars don't break as much, we don't have to rely on each other as much, and we aren't constantly looking for help to fix everything that's broken. Face it, 75% of the material on this site is probably repost or already covered material.

To those of you who have post counts in the thousands and brag about it as if they're the Einstein of the Eight, screw off. I personally, while respecting the fact that they may be knowledgable about the subject at hand, do not look up to a person who hides behind a high post count and a computer.

Sick of the noobs asking dumb questions? Don't answer. More importantly, quit the flaming ****. It just makes you look like an ***.

There's a time and place for everything. Grow up, everyone. Let's do what we came here to do. Have fun and help each other out.

Ok. I think I'm done. Can someone give me a hand down from here....thanks.

Looks like the topic started off well and then somehow got diverted....here my post to contribute to the annoying little things

1) The small trunk light that doesn't illumniate anything in the trunk because its being blocked by the spare tire kit. Wish they either had the lighter centered on or have two lights left of the trunk and right of the trunk

2) Lack of the power windows on the rear quarter windows. a bit annoying when it looks like its about to rain or when you close up all your windows to use the A/C on the freeway and realize the rear quarter windows aer still open and there no way to close it unless u stop and get out of the car.

3) I sometimes sit in the passenger front seat and realize that it might sit a bit high and there aren't any adjustments to lower the seat more......have to resort to tilting the back which can reduce space for a rear passenger sitting there.

4) The car being red! hahaha This probably shoudlnt' count, but having the car for 8 months and being pulled over 3x, 2 tickets and 1 verbal warning....new record for my driving record. Last one, cop was just picking on me for no apparent reason other than the fact thats its red and was looking for something to stick me with, luckily i have a clean record for the most part.

5) Lack of Valet key, whats the point of locking the glovebox and centered rear console shelf if the valet has the remote fob with the master key.....never understood it.....i guess its okay if someone breaks in your car and can't access ur glovebox but at the same time, it sucks knowing if u give ur keys to a valet, he can open up ur glovebox if need be.

6) No telescope steering wheel.......kind been spoiled in the past by VW tilt and telescope steering wheels....would give the RX-8 better driving positions for some
people

Thats about it for now. I still love the 8!!
