Another 8 or s2k?
Yo all, I'm sure some of you remember me; I was on here often before I totalled my poor 8. Well, i'm getting a new car in the spring and really want another one but the guys at the s2k forums have me wanting an s2000. Honestly though with no bias other than your appreciation for both cars, what would everyone choose if they had to make similar choice? I love the look of both, the RX-8 is a little more high maintenence (okay, alot), but I'd take the interior of the 8 any day. The s2k is a drop top but I actually see it as a con, my gf doesn't however. I just need reminders as to why I'll most likely be going with another 8! Thanks.

I was deciding between the 8 and S2K, ended up with the 8 because it was much more fun to drive, it had 4 seats, bigger boot, the suicide doors are just sexy and the 300W stereo is good stuff.
The noise is makes is also sexy. That and the 2009 model is better IMO

Well mind you, I won't be getting a brand new one regardless of what I get, I don't have paper like that! I got my '03 loaded with all features for around $17,000 last year and never had nay problems with it; loved that car to death. So i don't mind buying used.

I was thinking on the same lines between the 8 and the S2k. One of the biggest things that pointed me to the 8 was:
If I am at 9k RPM, and I will be all the time, I would prefer my engine to be spinning, not thumping.
Of course, the 8's engine doesn't last 10 miles, drinks 3 quarts of oil per week, gets 2 gallons per mile, and generally blows up in a massive ball of fire and brimstone complete with locusts and bloody water if you do anything that involves movement.
Heh, put another way, the powertrain warranty of only 36,000 miles on the s2k bothers me. The 8 is nearly triple that.

Is this car going to be your only car?? Or do you have another car?? Also where do you live, do you live where there are going to be more sunny days and hardly any snow on the ground??
Do you have a garage for the car?? Might also want to check the insurance rates compared to an s2000 and RX-8. However if it was up to me
Sunny, warm climates with hardly any snow during the year = s2000
I will have to say that I do like the s2000 a lot with the sound and gearbox, IMO the gearbox is a lot tighter than an RX-8.
Reason for the garage comment is, sometimes s2000 seats get jack out of your car so if you dont have a garage, sometimes you might have potential theives snooping around to get your seats. Also might be higher on the insurance side.
But since you had an 8 before, I would probably want to try out an s2000. Plus its going away (Last year of production 09), so it's like a collector item = can't be the resale value down the line.

Flip a coin, Heads Rx8 , Tails S2k, problem solved . either way gl with your next car.
but jokes aside, my other half owned one for a AP1 for 4years. it was a really fun car, loved it alot actually. but only downside was it was to loud, the engine was just loud even if i was just coasting (but was use it , due to owning a 97 miata) . also didnt like the Knight Rider speed tach. but besides that i was a good car. either way, you cant go wrong.

I personally don't fit in an S2K as well as the 8 I feel very very cramped and just does not feel like a comfortable drive I feel like i'm always "riding on top" compared to "being one" with the 8....the 8 all the way I say

IMO...
5'9 and under / 180lbs and under= S2000
Anything bigger than above= RX-8
Both cars drive similar in all climates, just that the S2000 obviously benefits from nice weather due to being a vert (unless u get the ultra badass hardtop).
Tuff decision partner, i guess at the end of the day you have to go with the one that leaves the greatest impression on you. GL

Well to one of the posters above, I live in cold *** NY right now, but am moving to Florida before next winter so the weather will no longer be an issue. I have a 97 civic right now so I will have another car. I just plan on modding the **** out of it and letting my GF drive it most of the time but I'll have her on a tight leash with it lol. So ya you're all just reinforcing my reasons for leaning towards another 8. Just wanted to possibly attain some extra pros and cons I might have not considered. Only thing that sucks is I won't be able to spend more than like 14k so getting an 8 as decked out as my last might not be possible. Either way it'll be equivalent to a lifetime of orgasms after going back to my civic from an 8 lol.

haha, dude EVOs=even higher maintenence and I think my GF would total the **** out of it her first day driving it. Plus they're kinda expensive; thanks for the suggestion though

if its me, I get S2000
2009 will be da last year for this car. ITs a legend.
if I have extra money I'd get one too. just for collection.
but of course if u need 2 extra seats and other stuff ... get the 8 again

In all seriousness though, both cars are pretty great. The RX-8 is a much more versatile with more trunk space, 4 doors, 4 seats and a hard top. If you have a beater and just want a weekend corner carver and you will be living in sunny Florida the decision gets a lot harder. Both cars handle excellently, both engines operate in a high rpm power band, and both cars are nice to look at. That really comes down to personal gut feel. For me, I would choose the RX-8 every time, but I've really fallen in love with rotary engines.

I've always been a fan of the S2000. Good car. Although, I picked an RX-8 for many obvious reasons. 4 Seats, unique and sexy look, unique engine....It's just one of those cars that people who LOVE to drive want...Sure the S2000 is a good car and everything, but it's just doesn't have the finesse that is the RX-8.

s2k is pretty nice, but i really only like the one before the facelift. it's one of THE best cars honda ever made. thing is, for me (and i've gone thru this in my head many times), if i were getting the s2k as a roadster, i'd just go get a miata instead. if i were getting the s2k as a sports car, i'd get the 8, 'cuz it's so similar to the 8 in many ways. on the other hand, you've already owned an 8. why not try something new? or, for the price of a new one of either, you can get 1 of each used...
