Another 8 smashed...
So, I've read all these threads with the "curse of the RX8" on them, and felt really bad for the owners...but happy it wasn't me.
Well, now it is me. I was just moving into a new house today, and transporting some items in a friends pickup, when I recieved a call that my PARKED 8 had been hit.
Basically, the mentally retarded neighbor backed straight across the street into my 8. Supposedly her car started to "bog down"and she slammed on the gas. This all just happened a few hours ago. The extent of the damage is right on the drivers side front fender. She really did a number...I can't drive the car right now just because the wheel well is pushed up against the tire. My main concern right now is the front axle. The car was hit hard enough to move it about 4 inches sideways, and turn the wheels. Unfortunately, some of the front door is dented as well.
I took about 20 pictures with a disposable camera. I'll try to get a few posted here, as I would like someone with a bit more experience to see if there is the possibility of more serious damage.
It feels horrible to have your 8 sitting in front of the house, mutilated, unable to drive it.
I went over to the neighbors house earlier to talk with her, but only her son was home. I've been drinking a bit and am still pretty upset, so it probably wouldn't be a good idea to talk with her. Not that I would hurt her or anything, but I would probably be a bit loud. Oh yes...her son said, "I think she hit the brakes or the gas or something after it bogged down." I'm pretty damn sure it was the gas

OMG!!! Sorry to hear about this!! This stuff makes me ill. I lose sleep if I get a door ding, I can only imagine how you must feel!! Keep it cool and try to exercise patience through the insurance process. The reality is, it will all work out. Insist your 8 is repaired by a Mazda owned/certified bodyshop. Be sure only original Mazda parts are used, period. Body damage...only new panels, no body filler. You should be ok. I would also ensure you get a copy of the Police report, file your photo's with them and also contact her insurance company to ensure she reported it all correctly and that they have the Police report etc... Don't put all your faith in her recolection of the accident. Her memory may be as bad as her driving!!!
Good luck!!!

At least it's not another silver car. I think they must be hard to see or something?
I've been cut off and almost hit more times in the last 10 mos. since I've had my 8....than in 25yrs of driving.
Good luck with the insurance ...they leave a bit to be desired usually :D

Is it your new neighbor or old neighbor? If it's your old neighbor, sue her. That hurts me too. Sorry. Some jackass with a white car put a ding in my door several months ago at work. I'm still not over it. I park on the side, and leave plenty of room. Stupid people that don't think.

Spazm,
Yea, we feel bad for you but **** happens bro. It was amusing to read that you were drinking and good your neighbor wasn't around... don't be a disgruntled RX8 owner that we read about in the paper that knocks out your dumbass neighbor. Idiots like her are a dime a dozen. Hopefully the damage is only cosmetic! Nice to see some of us have the same attachment problem with our cars. good luck

Sorry to hear of the mishap....The threads bring a tear to my eye. Here's to having your 8 back on the road shortly.
P.S. I open another beer in your honor as yet another virgin has been sacrificed.

Sorry to hear about your story. Fortunately I live in a neighborhood where everyone cares a lot for their cars regardless of the year, make, and model. They all just seem to really take care of them. Still I hate to think about the people who visit the park at the end of my block. Keeps me in the driveway anyhow.

thats F@#$%& up man. sorry to hear and I can feel your pain as I experienced something similar when the stupid visitor at my neighbour's hit my baby while backing up and damage the rear quarter panel. I felt sick a couple of days but then accepted the facts and moved on. I hope you (and your 8) feel better soon.

Back over her son and be like: "yeah, I accidentally left the e-brake on and it was bogging down so I'd slammed on the gas and *accidentally* ran over your son... twice. (had to move the car back forward to make sure the body didn't get caught under the car...)"
Actually that'd probaby cause more damage to your car.

I feel your pain, Spazm. I honestly think RX-8s must be invisible to people with below-average IQs! I still haven't gotten my 8 back from the shop and it's been nearly five months since getting rear-ended. Be patient with the repairs -- they'll take longer than you think they should.
