Another new member, help if possible
Heys everyone im new to posting on forums and what not so bear with me haha. im happy to join the rx8 crew well i will pretty soon! I came across an 04 rx8 with 56,000 miles that i picked up at a really good price. I dont have it yet but i will soon i cant wait to start working on it. I have done a decent amount of research on rotarys (i always loved rx7s) but i have a few questions that i hope you guys could help me out on. The car is very clean and sounds and runs good i think. just one issue is that when we started it up lots of smoked came out of the exhaust. It didnt blow as much when it started to warm up but it was still there. I was wondering what could cause this? Anything in particular? The car didnt have much oil and it hadnt been replaced in maybe 5,000 miles and im willing to bet no wires or coils etc were changed either. any help would be appreciated. Thanks alot

hey bro, usually iv seen that iv the car sits for a long time or sometimes it cud if theres too much oil in it. if its not happening anymore i wudnt worry about it. just make sure everythings good (plus, wires, oil pressure) u shud be fine. I dont think the seals are going at 56 but they could be. U have a lot of 8 drivers out in socal as iv seen it here, hook up with some meets n stuff

so i shouldnt be too worried about a bad engine or anything like that? ill be sure to check plugs and wires as soon as i can. i definitely plan on checking out the meets as soon as i get it all going.

well i know its not a good idea to run these cars with low oil for prolonged amounts of time, i never let mine go below 2/3rds on the dipstick. But the only real way to be sure of engine condition is to get a compression test. I wouldnt be overly worried about the smoke, mine smokes a fair bit on startup, worse since my de-cat but these rotarys are hardly emissions friendly at all.

That's a helluva deal! Congrats!!!
You might want to get it on a lift or peek underneath on the passenger side. You should determine whether you have a stock or 3rd party mid pipe. If the cat has been gutted or there is no cat at all then a little bit of smoke isn't anything to be alarmed about. Should have a nice sweet smell too.

thanks a lot man! I definitely couldn't pass this up and im glad i didnt. I guess the previous owners thought all the smoke was a bad engine or something haha but the runs good. I will check it out as soon as i can thanks for the help.
