Another new owner thread
greetings and happy new years to everyone....!
Last night I became a proud new owner of an 05' MT RX8-GT in titanium gray with only 15k miles on it. This would be my second rotary car, i sold my 87 FC about 3 years ago, so I figured it was time to come back to my roots, especially with this deal I had on my hands with the rx8. Now onward with the questions I have for you guys....
- Where can I run my car's VIN to verify if any of the recalls have been done?
- Should I be worried about the coils yet at 15k...? I've been reading/researching here that a lot of people were experiencing problems with them, more specifically with the older 8's.
- The engine bay seems to have dirt and grime that seems normal for a 4 year old car, so I'm planning to give the engine bay a good degrease/cleaning, does anyone have tips/procedures for me on this?
...other than all the above, I am pretty well versed in the normal keep up with rotaries as far as the whole how to avoid flooding, warm up procedures, what gas to use, oil checks and etc... So with all that said, glad to have you guys here for the help and thanks. Any added advice on what I should be keeping up and looking out for with as far as with an 8 that's hit 15k like my own would be awesome.

Welcome to the club! If you go to your Mazda dealership they can check to see which TSB's / Recalls have been performed. You're coils are fine at 15K however if you ever notice a loss of power at 6K RPM's and up, it's a tell tale sign to replace coils.

i'd be interested to see some pics of this beauty you just bought!
as far as the cleaning is concerned, i clean under the hood with diluted simple green. cleaning the aluminum with simple green isnt preferable as it can be harmful to the aluminum. brake cleaner will take off any heavy deposits. non chlorinated brake cleaner dries very quickly.

Congrats! I have about 18k on my 05.
No real need at this point in changing the coils unless you start to see a power loss.
They are supposed to put a sticker on the underside of the hood(near the front) for recalls and what not, but some never do. Any dealer should be able to tell you based on the VIN.
I can eat off my engine bay, and sometimes do excatly that(pizza warmer..ha ha), so I'm not much help there. I'm the original owner and never let it get dirty.

dealership for the recalls
coils are fine unless u are feeling powerloss
I also never let my engine bay get dirty I have used "engine shine" on it just spray it on (cover electrical components as much as possible) let is sit and hose it off...
