Another new proud papa
Hi all,
Just picked up my new baby last week. She's an '04 Ti GT 6M, at least I think I got all those initials correct. She's got 33000 on the clock and I picked her up for 12,995. She's pretty much bone stock except for a tint job.
With that out of the way, here's how she ended up in my driveway....
I'd been driving a *gasp* Civic for the last 5 years. I really liked the car and hadn't really thought much about getting a new vehicle. Then it developed a leak in the decklid, so my trunk got full of water, etc. So the wife, not knowing that I could pretty easily fix the problem, suggests that I start looking for a replacement. Hmmmm, didn't take much convincing.
I knew three things: Price range under 14K, had to be a small car, had to be fun to drive (which pretty much meant it had to be a manual). I pretty much narrowed my search down to an RX-8, a Mustang, a G-6 coupe, and possibly an RSX, altough that was getting pricey.
My impressions: Mustang - sharp exterior, what happened inside? You could get lost in that thing. Poor wife couldn't see over the dashboard.
G6- beautiful interior: bland, bland exterior. Good power though.
RSX- Never got to drive one, probably pretty nice.
Oh, and I drove a riced out celica. Cornered well...ok interior. That's about it.
RX-8 - Perfection, of course. I made the mistake of driving it first, so everything paled in comparison. Really wasn't fair to the other cars. According to my wife, I literally lit up and was glowing when I sat down for my first drive.
I had always loved the look of the RX but never though I'd be able to afford one. Then again, I'd never really looked in the pricing. Once I found out it was within my reach, I set about researching everything I could. Well, I damn near got scared off by all the crap out on the net. Blown engines, lousey milage (ok, that part is true), bad trans, broken visors, broken consoles, etc, etc. Sounded like a total lemon of a car. Then I found rx8club.com and was able to read the real scoop from people who loved and cared for these machines. Totally turned my thinking around. If not for this site, I'd probably be one of the majority who doesn't know what they are missing. Oh, and taking a circular on-ramp at double the posted speed helped to seal the deal as well
So a few days later, I was back picking up my girl and driving her home, watching the gas guage go down the whole way home I have had zero complaints about the car. She runs strong and smooth. It hasn't had the emission recall performed yet, so I'm gonna get that done ASAP. When I ran the carfax, I saw that it had been rear-ended with "very minor damage". Whoever repaired it did one heck of a job. I can't find any indication that anything has ever been touched, except that they didn't repaint the black part black. Instead it is titanium gray like everything else. I kind of like it actually. Sets it apart from others (you can see it in the pics)
Anyway, another highly satisfied, if not longwinded, owner. I'll probably wear this site out with questions or just stupid crap.
Sorry if these pics are a bit too big. I'm a little behind the times with this fancy mumbo jumbo stuff

I had never been inside of an RX8 until I test drove mine and all I could think was "this is too good to be true".
Everything about it just worked for me: the ride, the view out of front, the layout, the overall size and all that stuff.
The sound of the engine is unreal.
SOLD!

nice car I waited for a TiGrey when looking for mine, reds were abundant with less miles but it was going to be the RX8 or a stang in dark grey and after driving the stang the choice was easy.

Hello. Just introducing myself as well. The funny thing is after reading your post, your story is very identical to mine!! I also have a civic EK that ive had for the past 5-6 years, and now I finally broke something in my engine. So I decided I didnt wanna spend any more money on the car and start looking for something better. I was looking at WRX's and EVO's at first, but they were out of my price range. Then I checked the RX8's and was very surprised how low they were going for. Ive always loved RX's and the 8 was one of my "dream" cars since it was first debuted. I was car-less and searching for an 8 for at least 3 weeks until last Thursday when I found my car! Now I'm an owner of a 04 SS with 15k miles. I got it for a pretty good price IMO. 14.7k out the door. Clean carfax too ;D
Looking forward to seeing some of you at car meets :D
