Another new RX8 owner (from WRX Wagon)
I've really enjoyed the WRX, but I decided to get an RX8.
The RX-8 communicates the road in a way I’ve never experienced in a 4-seater, nevermind a 4-door. While the WRX is a competent handler, I'd been missing the nimble feel of my old Integra GSR as well as its tighter steering, better throttle response, and smoother shifter. And I've always been a fan of rotaries, despite their poor fuel economy.
Still, the WRX was a blast to drive. I'll look back on my days tearing up dirt roads and snow-filled parking lots fondly. And I'll miss that grin-inducing boost rush! But 9000 RPMs puts a smile on my face too :D
Picked up the RX8 a few hours ago! Color me psyched!

Just the MP3 player.
I live in Massachusetts and almost got the Sport package for DSC for winter driving, but I decided to save the $1k.
I'd rather plan my route during snow storms than have to turn off DSC the rest of the time. This isn't my first RWD car and I think I'll be OK with snow tires as long as I'm extra careful.

I am losing a fellow WRX wagon owner, but gaining a fellow Rx8 owner. If I had to choose one over the other, and hauling equipment wasn't a concern, I would take the 8 as well. Rotaries rule and lets face it, the 8 is a cooler ride, IMO. So welcome to the rotary community. Definitely get the snow tires on the car before snow again.

I did actually read here that some people have weighed their car and it came to *under* 2900 pounds (w/out fuel). But others have weighed in at 3000+. I might try to weigh both my wife's Forester and my RX-8 at the same scale (one immediately after the other) to get a benchmark. Not that it matters either way since the RX-8 handles like a dream.

VW coulda had it...

I took the very same path. So far, the joys outweigh the regrets.
As stated above, get your car some winter tires/and or wheels if you plan on driving it in the winter; my only complaint is, the RX8's engine takes a long time to warm up in the cold, and never
seems to get fully warm.

Good on you! My brother has a silver WRX wagon which I have driven a fair bit. I encouraged him to buy it and helped him negotiate a good deal on it. A year and a half later, I bought my 8.
What can I say? The WRX is a great car. It performs very well; it's awesome in bad weather and it has a million practical virtues.
But when it comes time to park or drive our two cars together somewhere, I feel like I'm driving a million dollar car; his car looks and feels like a little econobox.
The look and feel factor, not to mention the tightness and road feel of my 8, make me SO HAPPY I chose my 8. Now, as a second car I would love to have the WRX. But for sheer driving happiness, the 8 is way more exciting.
To me.
Just my opinion.

Deslock & KKMmaniac -
ditto for me! Small world, really.
My wrx wagon was in an accident and declared a total loss in late Jan. (rear-ended, and pushed into car in front of me), and after hassling with insurance companies, I finally got a settlement check and started shopping. It was really tempting to just go get another wrx (drives great in the snow, less $$, rebate, and I (still) have some accessories for it). However, after reading and researching and taking one & only one test drive I was sold.
I'll look for you all on the roads, and I'll wave at 'ya if I see you.

I'm lucky to have the best of both worlds; I've got both a WRX and RX-8!! Each very, very good at what their intended purposes are. I don't think you can say one is better than the other. On a cold, snowy day in CT, the WRX is a no-brainer choice. On a sunny, clear day, the RX-8 is the way to go. On rainy days, a slight nod to the WRX. And so on....

I guess I am not alone!! I just traded in my yellow WRX '02 sedan for a blue RX-8 this saturday. I liked my WRX alot but once I test drove the RX-8 last week I couldn't help but to beg my wife to let me get a new toy.
