1. Probably not givin out at 13k
2. Alot and a long time
3. let it loose at 3000 . . .if it grabs, you are good. If it slips loosely in to gear you are SOL

4.See #3

Falken, why don't you come out to a meet. Many EVOLV members are really good at diagnosing issues when hearing/seeing things in person. It's really hard to tell you what is what by a post on a forum (especially when you are absolutely going to get flamed -- believe me everyone in this thread so far has been REALLY nice compared to what usually happens).

Check out the Chicago Meet Schedule and we'll be happy to help you figure out what the sound is. Whether the sound is due to low oil or not, you need to check your oil often and keep it full.

I am absolutely going to - hopefully to the next meet and eat.

And trust me I know about the flaming on this half disaster zone of a forum, seeing as how just about every thread over half the comments are from people who sound like they are prepubescent trolls and can't give respectful or insightful comments let alone spell correctly, seeking only to rack up their post count. (to clarify I am referring explicitly to other threads, not this one.)

Welcome, lets start from the beginning. First off, If you have a question, post it in the Chicago Lounge/ MW Forums. Your more likely to get a straight answer with less bullsh*t. If the car didn't come with an Owners Manual, you can read it online at mazdausa.com

1. Whenever I accelerate, I hear a far off, very high frequency screech, like something is grinding. It starts around 2k RPM and goes until about 4k RPM. Its very quiet but its definitely there...whats wrong?
It would take someone to listen to it to know. With 13k miles on the car, I would guess it's still under warranty. You don't need to take it back to Naperville for service. Go to the Mazda website above and you can find the 3 nearest dealers to you. Just don't use the Autobarn. Many of us have had bad experiance with them. My dealer, who happens to be close to me, has been very good; Wilkins Buick/Mazda. They may not be the best for you, it's up to you who you use. Or, you can come to the meet on the 12th and we can see if we can figure it out then.

2. I assumed the dealer oiled it before I bought it (they gassed it up full), but I'm not sure. Could lack of oil cause to above issue?
Probably not. Do you know how to check the oil? If not, the Owners Manual will give you the details.
3. Since the RX-8 injects oil, does it use it all? Do I have to get it changed or will it just burn it all?

The car is setup to inject a little oil into the engine. It is best to check the oil level every other time you fill the tank with gas. Add a quart if necessary. Give her a complete oil change every 3K miles. The engine and oil coolers hold about 7 quarts of oil. When you change it you will only get about 4 quarts out. It's nothing to worry about.

4. Can I refill oil myself/how? (Please for the love of god don't tell me to search, I've tried and it doesn't work)
Yes, some of this information is above. The rest you can find in the Owners Manual.

5. What oil is the best to use?
The Manual says 5W-20. The dealer or the quick oil change place will use 5W-30 most likely. Some people have had warranty work refused because they didn't have proof that they changed their oil. Keep a log and receipts. Or, you can have your local Mazda dealer do it. It will be entered on their computer for a permenant record. I get quarterly free oil change coupons from my dealer so you know where I get mine done.
Warrenty on the car is 4yrs/50,000 mi. You didn't post what your year was, but with your low mileage, I would guess it is still under warranty.

See you at the Meet.
