Any feedback on what dealers are charging?

Hi everyone!

This is my first post on these forums, but I've been following them for quite some time now (I've learned a lot too -- you guys are great! )

I'm *gulp* getting ready to place my presale order, and I was wondering if those of you who have already ordered have spoken to your dealers and found out how much, if any, they are going to charge you over the MSRP? If you don't mind sharing the information, I'd just like to get an idea of what I'm in for. I'd especially be interested in anyone who's spoken to Irvine Mazda since they're the closest dealer to me.

Thanks in advance for any info!

If they charge you over MSRP just go to another dealer... I don't think you'll have a problem as you do have a pre-order on the car. Just make sure that you get that in writing when you go in to make a deposit.

If I do pre-order I will still try to get under MSRP. It's not like the dealer is doing anyone a favor. They should be thrilled that they have a sure sale on a car before it even hits the lot. If anyone tried to sell to me for over MSRP I would just wait a few months and rake them over the coals when the car has been on the lot for a while and they are sweating. I am sure the 8 will sell well, but it's not the next Tickle Me Elmo. There should be plenty to go around.

The problem with waiting for a car on the lot is that you may wait forever to get what you want. For instance, I want leather. There are about 25 Mazda 6's on my dealer's lot right now. How many have leather? Zippo. They won't be ordering a bunch of loaded cars, in fact I wouldn't be surprised if they got a bunch of wimpy automatics.

I'll be driving one of those automatics - thank you very much!

I also tried to order on on-line, but it didn't go through - got hung up on my password.

But I'l plan on waiting a little while longer ... I want to buy it under MSRP (a few hundred over invoice) if I can ...

:D

I'm 2nd on the list with one dealer and supposedly have right of first refusal, but they won't commit to a price with a pre-order. Basically, they keep saying it will be 'fair market value' which means that if there is more demand, than they can sell my car for more than MSRP. I have a real problem with this 'cause I won't know till May/June what the car will cost.

I called another dealer and they said that they've got 1 coming in between April and May. Right away I'm guessing that he didn't really know what he was talking about.... But he said that once they get finalized prices from Mazda, they will set their prices (in about a week) and then I can preorder for a set price. Is it possible that Mazda has publicized MSRP but their reps haven't set it for the dealers? Hard to believe we'd know before any of the dealers but it certainly seems that way.

Another dealer in the area said they haven't heard of anything about the rx-8 and that he guesses that they're not participating in the pre-order process.

Maybe it's just NY but I sucks that dealers won't commit to MSRP even for a pre-order.

woohoo! I went to the dealer tonight and placed my order!

$500 refundable deposit, MSRP. I went for the all black interior/exterior, 6-spd manual, Grand Touring pkg, no Nav though (I think I could use a new home computer more ). They told me I'm the second person to place an order there so far.

I have to admit, I'm feeling a little nervous now that I've done it (at least the deposit's refundable though!), but I really didn't want to take a chance on waiting to see what the dealer would get later on. Besides, I've been needing a new car for a while now!

Hey Puppy1!

You're not that far from me! I went to Irvine Mazda in the Irvine Auto Center. The first guy I got on the phone there didn't seem to know much about the presale, but he transferred me to another guy who was more helpful. The person who actually placed my order there was John DeLoss.

Thanx. If I don't hear anything from the dealer I selected online by this morning, I'm heading there tonight. I need my car to be in the first batch. I don't think my current one will last later than June.

My Alhambra Mazda dealer just called (I just put my house in Coto up for sale, wife wouldn't let me have my RX-8, so I'm dumpin' the _____.) He won't guarantee MSRP. Needless to say, the conversation quickly ended.

I'm on my way to Irvine now.
