Any RX-8's Damaged in Yesterday's Central Texas Hail Barrage
Ouch!!! We had some pretty nasty baseball up to softball sized hail yesterday here in about a 60-70 mile radius around Austin, TX. Lot's of cars looked like someone took a sledge hammer to them. There were many a windshield busted up and even completely smashed in. Did anyone get their 8 trapped outside in that nastiness. Luckly I slid home behind one storm front and arrived home to the safety of my garage just 30 minutes before another front rolled in.
If you got caught post some pics so we can feel your pain.

Hail Storm ...
My car went through 3 hail storms 2 days ago and i feel fortunate that i only have 3-5 dings on my 8 I was wondering what it might cost to have these dings fixed. they are all on the front hood.

I have been really concerned with this the past couple of storms. Like being at school and it starting to hail and not knowing and not being able to move the car. Anyways, I would say about $75 to $100 per dent. I want to see some pictures and how big was the hail?

Sorry about the hail storm...
Isn't a hail storm considered 'an act of god'? If so...I BELIEVE insurance covers this...
My car was recently damaged in a hail storm. Will my insurance rates increase if I file a claim?
No. It would fall under your comprehensive coverage which is (from my submission in the glossary): Comprehensive coverage helps pay for damage to an auto that was not caused by collision. This coverage typically includes, among other things, coverage for damage caused by falling objects, hail, fire, theft and vandalism, explosion, and earthquake.
Comprehensive coverage covers things that are pretty much out of your control, so you are not penalized for submitting a claim.
I found the above in the internet...

i will try and get a picture for you. It was dime to golf ball size hail. I have a 500 dollar deductable on my insurance so it will be cheaper to pay for that out of my own pocket i guess.

Paintless dent removal is the only way to go here. They should be able to do the whole job for probably $300.
Obviously the hail was in that zone between "big enough to dent aluminum" (the hood) but not big enough to dent steel (the roof and trunk lid).
Don't feel too bad - I had a 1997 Honda CR-V that went through a 10 minute pelting with quarter-to-golf ball sized hail. At the end of it had all the glass broken out at the right side of the car (winds from the west, car was parked facing south), a badly cracked (so badly the car wasn't driveable) windshield, and more than 400 dents in the hood, roof, entire right side, and the fendertops and upper curves of the left side.
$6300 in damage! I took the insurance check, cashed it, bought out the lease and then sold the car for about $3000 under the book trade in value (total cost to me: $4900) to a used car dealer who felt he could "fix it for $2000". I still had $1400 in change left over.
Never really liked the car anyway ...

Like everybody said...check out the paintless dent removal places. I went to one that did awesome work in College Station that charged $65 per panel about 4 years ago, not per dent. If all the dents are in your hood (one panel) that would be a great deal.

sorry to hear about your car,it shouldn't be THAT expensive, but you might take a hit... Best way to prevent this from happening again is, park in a garage! but if there are times you can't park outside, buy a car cover like I did...

Sorry to hear about the damage.
However, it gives me an opportunity to share a cautionary tale:
We had a huge hail storm in Sydney a few years ago. A lot of widespread damage.
Anyways, an insurance assessor is out checking out some customer's property a day or so later and as he's walking down the street he hears this "whack...whack...whack" sound.
He looks up a long driveway into an open garage and just makes out a bloke walking around his car with a golfball in a footy sock whacking crap out of it (obviously wanted a respray for the cost of his excess).
Assessor dude fires up his videocam and shoots minutes and minutes of this character. Just so happens that the assessor worked for the insurer that insured him.
Sure enough, when he lodges his claim, the insurer reports him to the cops and he ended up getting convicted of insurance fraud.
...and still had to pay for the damage.

was the hail really that big? Coming from the UK I find it really hard to imagine hailstones of that size. I would think there are lots of people killed every year from hail if that's the case.

I recently got caught on a wide open highway in what was the worst hail storm I've ever been in. Ground was white from all the hail and you could see periodic baseball size hail falling. All I could do was listen to the hail nailing my car and hope one of the larger ones didn't smash in the front windsheild on me.
Anyway, after the crap finally ended and I got out I found about 8 dings in the hood, one large one smack in the middle of the roof, two nice ones on the right rear passanger door, one good one over the right rear tire panel and two next to the trunk on each side.
Insurance would have covered it, but with my high deductible I chose not to use it.
This is what I paid for my paintless dent repair and it looks good as new.
They did the entire hood for $75. They said the hood was super easy to fix dents on so I def wouldn't pay $300 for the hood. The did all the other dents other than the roof for $75. The roof was the hard part and it cost $200 for the one large dent (something about having to drop the headliner, etc).
Anyway, so I got my entire thing fixed for $350 + tax. It flushed my MS CAI money down the drain.... but at least the car is pretty again.
