any tall drivers here?

hi, im currently looking at the rx8 to replace my current car.
I love the cars looks, the only thing that im iffy about is its small size, so i was wondering how the ride is comfort wise for a tall drivers since i am 6'2".

I'm 6'2" and I would have to say that this is a hard question to answer. I would guess that it depends on your torso size and whether you are overweight or not. I am of medium build, so I don’t have problems when I am riding with just a passenger or myself. But, if there is someone behind me, then it’s HELL and so I usually switch to my Outback. (Though, I have fit 7 people in the RX-8 before, including one other 6+ foot guy)

If you opt for the sunroof, then you are leaving yourself with just under 2 inches from scalp to ceiling. When I spike up my hair, I have to lean back a bit further.

thanks for the fast responses guys, im also medium build, and i dont like using the back seat anyway, so basically with the seat pushed all the way back, would the ankles be close to the steering wheel? and how close does the head come to the ceiling on the non sunroof rx8?

6'2" here and I have the sunroof. No problems at all. I think it has much more room than the 350z. IMO.

I'm 6'5" medium build and I have the seat all the way back, when I'm wearing my docs my knees get a little close to the steering wheel since the heals are thicker, but when I'm in my sneekers it's fine. I also have the sun roof so I lean my seat back to where my head is right where the b-pillar is and I have about 2 inches of clearance.

I'm 6'2" with a fairly large build, and my friend who's probably gettin one is 6'4 with a med. build. we both fit fine. His doesn't have the sunroof though, which will add a little headroom

What the HECK?!

How'd you manage that? (I know I'm threadjacking but... seriously 7 people with 2 of them being 6+ feet tall?)

6' 1.75'' w/ sunroof and I fit fine, but it's definitely a bit snug. My roommate is 6' 4'' and he has no problem, so I'm guessing we have similar sized torsoes. There's no way I could sit comfortably with a helmet and the sunroof, though.

6'2" with sunroof, and no issues here. You will be fine. Even had people sit behind me before without issues.

6'1" had to play with the seat awhile for the first month or two until I got it right. Drove 1177 miles to Sevenstock7 last year - no problems with my back onthe trip.

6'3.5" here. Had to get an '8 without a sunroof. The ~2" roof clearance that you lose with the sunroof caused my hair to rub on the headliner. Not painful, but annoying. At my age, I'm just glad to have hair that rubs. :D Without the sunroof, and I'm just fine....no clearance issues at all. Plenty of room for my legs, sunroof or not.

^^^^ Me too, w/ sunroof my hair would rub a little at 6'3" , so I bought the sports pkg.

6'7 No problems

I'm tall, have no problems, however if I where to buy it all over again, I would NOT get the sun roof.

6'2" (235 lbs) and with sunroof...No Problem. Granted it's hard for anyone besides my kids to sit behind me. But that is no differnet than any mid size car I've driven. I am actually more confortable in the RX8 than my Altima.

6' 2", 185 lbs, and I would certainly suggest you try it out for yourself first. I went with the sunroof, lost two inches of headroom, and now have to lean back a bit extra to avoid the hair brushing against the headliner. Or just wear a baseball cap and there's plenty of room.

6' 3" and 215 lbs here. I have the sunroof. For the first month it took getting used to. It's a little short on legroom and headroom. I had to put the seat further back than I liked, and had to tilt the seat more than usual. It bothered me for a while, however, now I'm getting used to the new position. In fact when I switch to my wife's SUV I find that I move the seat further back than I used to, and tilt it further back.

In short, I would prefer more room. However, I love the car so freakin much that I'm willing to learn a new driving position. Give me another month and I'll feel nice-n-comfy.

By the way, going without the sunroof will give you more headroom. However, you'll have to give up the leather and Nav system, because you can only get those items with a sunroof.

I am 6ft foot 5/ 260lbs. My right leg is a bit skewed to apply brake properly, and headroom is just enough (but I am used to tight squeezes to be able to drive the cars I love). I would avoid the moonroof/sunroof option for additional headroom if needed. But this car fits very well, and the seat holds you perfectly in corners. My only beefs really are with the upper seat design and dead pedal size. The seat is a bit pushy on my upper back, so keeping a proper posture is important since it is easy to slouch your upper back. And the dead pedal is tight fit my 14" Vans.

I'm 6'3' and more legs than torso. No problems. Part of the reason I bought my 8 ....I could fit in it w/o being cramped.

man i'm almost 6'1 and you guys make me feel short. I also have my seat all the way back, it mostly just depends on how you drive though...i sit far back so i don't ride the clutch (it helps for me)

6'2.5", have a sunroof, and still have room to wear a helmet in the car. Not a lot of room, but room.
