Any tips for training cats to stay the F off my car?

First off, this is not a solicitation for methods to murder any animals. As much as I despise them, my wife and kids have 3 outdoor cats that have free reign in and out of my garage and, for some reason, seem to love the 8 as much as we do and won't stay off of it even though there is a perfectly good Jeep right next to it. They leave hair, flea dust, and God knows what else behind after they've laid on it. I started shooting them with a squirt gun when I catch them on there but all that seems to have taught them is to just jump off before I can pick the gun up next time they are caught.

Just wondering if anyone has any ideas or past experiences to train them that that is not the place to be - ever?

Take them to the humane society, and tell the kids that they're missing

I just grabbed my cat an yelled at him when I caught him. Right in his face never did it again. Now he runs at the mere sound of my voice.

Get a dog

Or try to sprinkle cayenne pepper around the car.

+1 Get a dog... and not one that will play with the cats... because sometimes you get the ones that will do that. Ask me how I know.

Cats are attracted to warmth, your nice hot rotary car hood is a magnet for cats. You need to give them a reason to think they don't want to be there.

Do you have one of those fold-up sun screens that you put in the windshield? Take one of those and cover one side with double-sided tape.

Then put that (tape side up) on the hood of your car, centered on that nice warm spot. Once the cats figure out that the 8s hood may not be as comfy as it seems, they may give the Jeep a shot.

I don't recommend shouting at the cats or spraying water on them when they are sitting on the hood of your car. They may dig in with their rear claws to take off, and scratch your paint.

dayum that's disgusting. Tap them on the nose. Sooner or later they will get it, my cat always jumped on my lap with his paws (Rip) and I tapped him on the nose a couple times and he finally got it. Everytime he went on things he was careful to not use his claws, unless he himself was scared or got hit.

I used to do that to my cat when he did stuff but whenever I would put him down after he would just latch on to my leg and bite and scratch me.

I also tried the squirt gun method and all he does is look at you untill you put the gun down then instantly do whatever he is not supposed to.

I hate my cat
