You say you are going to a Z because the 8 is so underpowered. It's not that it is underpowered, it's the fact it doesnt have the torque the Z has. Kinda funny how all these folks talk about how slow the 8 is yet it posted better numbers than a Z and the same as a M3. Also the 0-60 times are not far off from the Z. Maybe 0-60 is the only thing that matters anymore when someone mentions sportcars.

 

there is a .5 second difference in the times, which if you are a great driver, you can make that up. peoples butt dynos are failing.

I find that oil runs thicker than water on this thread. I bought my 8 about 3 weeks ago, I agree with the bad audio, so I fixed it. Got a box from 4080, got a dash kit, and a couple of amps. I knew I was going to do that as soon as I turned the stereo on. I also knew about the power. I pulled off the lot and thought, where is the pin you to the seat feel. But when I hit the first corner I knew that the power could be fixed, so I am fixing it. I went to a local shop and they sold me a turbo, it will be installed as soon as my new front end is done. There is a cost to be paid. I bought my 04 6speed with 22,000 miles on it for 15,950. I put 3,000 in the audio system. I put 6,000 in the motor. and 800 in body mods. I have got about 26,000 in the car . You can give any car power, but it is not easy to fix stability and track controll.

So much talk of test driving a car as if it should be a final filter. BS, period. It can only tell you so much. You have learn about a new car though ownership. Pro's and con's will come about over time, only then will you know. So unfortunately you take away considerable risk with a new purchase. Live and learn. If it's not for you, move on.

 

Thanks to my autocrossing addiction, I get the opportunity to drive a lot cars, flat out, on a track. -Much better than an average test drive.

Even then, day to day life can show other pro's and con's not obvious when a car is driven all-out on a track.

 

yes, but the main complaint of the 8 is the lack of torque, which you can feel right away. especially if you test drive a Z and an 8 back to back

It doesnt take ownership to know that a 390lb-ft V-8 is going to feel a helluva lot different than a 140 lb-ft rotary. All it really takes is reading.

It's kind of funny , if this thread had been title . Is this car fast enought for you ? most everyone would've said no. I like my car alot and i've had it for 20 month now , now would I want more power , hell yea ..... nothig wrong with having a faster car . I do know about FI and all , but if you have a new car with warranty it's not smart to do it .....

The 8 is more then fast enough to get me killed. The last thing I need is even more power. I find the low torque at low RPM's help keep me from driving like a complete lunatic.
