Anyone elses doors auto-lock?

If my car has been locked for a long time, and I unlock it but dont open the doors or the trunk, after about 30 seconds or so the car automatically re-locks without me touching the fob. Normal? This is a bit annoying as I often unlock the car through the window of my house, then set the keys down and run out to get whatever I need from the car...but alas it is locked again...DOH! (edit) This isnt something that I "think" happens...I was standing next to my car this morning on my cell, unlocked it and then kept talking...it locked right in front of me so I tested my theory several times. It without a doubt locks re-locks if I dont "break the seal" of the doors.

Yeah it's normal...just a safety precaution. Although I do wish that the car was smart enough to lock itself if you unlock, open the door, but then walk away from the car without relocking the door. It's also a bit strange that the car didn't come with an autolock for when you hit the ignition, seems like that should be a standard safety feature by now in all cars.

Also, the fact that you can't lock the doors when the car is on seems to be a bit of a double edged sword. Yeah, it means you can't accidentally lock your keys in the ignition, but at the same time, it also means you can't just walk away from you car for a minute in some public parking lot, without fearing that somebody could just walk right up to your car and drive away. I've lost count of the number of times I've wanted to just run into a convenience store to grab something that would only take a minute or less and don't want to turn off the car, only to worry about somebody swiping the car. And with the whole shabang about more gas being used during startups, along with how the RX-8 has hard start problems...it gets VERY annoying that you can't just lock the doors while the car's on.

I love the fact that there is no stupid auto-lock when the car starts to roll. That "feature" annoys the hell out of me in all other cars that do it.

Cover to cover... a downloaded one while I was waiting to pick up my '8

A lot of alarm systems give you the option to auto lock and anti-hijack (lock doors once the car starts moving) -- so if you really want either feature fit an aftermarket alarm.

I had anti-hijack on my last car (courtesy of the aftermarket alarm). I miss it but I now lock the doors on my 8 manually when I'm driving in stop start traffic -- I've had a couple of people try an open the car door on me while stopped at lights.

My manual says 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and R on top of the gearshift. Is that what you mean?

I hate that feature too. I was greatful that my previous car had it as an option that can be customized.

im not sure of this (i guess i could do some digging around and waste time at work to find out), but i think that manufacturers arent supposed to make the doors auto-lock on 2 doors.

now, i know the 8 is a 4 door, but because of the design of the doors, the rear doors dont even have the option of being locked or not except by the front door... maybe? i dunno, just a theory on that one...
