Anyone ever embarrased by their '8?
Generally, I've got nothing but praise. But I must admit, when I needed to move my car out of my friend's driveway, and had to do a lap around the neighborhood just to make sure the car didn't flood the next time I started it, it was a little embarrasing.
"It's got more horsepower than engines more than twice its size!"
"Cool!!"
"I guarantee you, this car handles better than any you have ever driven."
"Very cool!!"
"I just need to do a quick lap around the neighborhood. If I only move it a very short distance it'll likely flood the next time I start it."
"...uh...that's...uh...neat, I guess. Yeah."

You don't need to drive anywhere. Just discretely idle it for a couple minutes to bring the temp up into range, then do the 10 seconds at 3000 routine. No explanations needed.
This is a unique vehicle. Don't be embarrassed to treat it correctly.
Now, embarrassing, that's running out of gas and thumbing a ride, red can in hand.

I'd be embarrased if I had handled it the way you did. In over 2 years of ownership, I have never had a flooding issue, nor have I ever taken a silly lap around the neighborhood to try and prevent one.

Interesting. Have you contacted the dealer on getting it fixed? Could be a sign of something serious.

I'm proud of my 8 but when my father in law had to have my competition ski boat pulled in by a jet ski when he ran it out of gas, I considered moving off the lake and torching the boat. There is nothing worse, I assure you.

Speaking of flooding...my engine has been taking more than two seconds to start up lately, kinda scaring me. I normally rev and idle the engine when I'm about to shut it off...I guess I need to do the same procedure before hitting the road.
Embarrassed from stalling is the only thing I can recall, but that's gone now.

Just taking a quick cruise around the block is fine, but that guy telling his friends that he has to do it otherwise his car will flood is a totally different story.

Not embarassing at all.
I usually just tell them that I like to warm it up before I drive it.
While it's warming up for a few minutes, just stand there shooting the breeze for a little bit.
PLUS when you rev it to shut it down, it usually puts smiles on people's faces to hear that sweet rotary sound.

Yeah that can be a little embarrassing. Nothing like pulling up to a stoplight and having everyone turn at look at you while you sqeeeeeeeeeal to a stop.

I've never had any issues with flooding whatsoever. Managed to stall it in traffic once, started first go. Starting, moving it 5 metres and stopping it for washing every weekend for the last 6 months has never led to not being able to start it again, either.
Embarrassed when I left the handbrake off and my car started rolling out of a petrol station and having someone say to you "mate, your car is rolling"? Yes, that's embarrassing.

Embarrassed, Ya when my new car squeeks and rattles at a red light:@ I have taken it to the dealer 3 times to get the belt squeek fixed and countless other times to get the doors fixed, but so far same bs.

Sounds like it's time to find another Mazda dealer.

I was only embarrased by my RX-8 once - last week when she was sick.
The cat was blocked up and I had to limp to Rochester, NY (70 miles away) last Tuesday. I had almost no power at all - couldn't manage more than 60 mph and actually lost speed on any noticable uphill grade. On the I-90 thru-way (posted - 65, flow of traffic - 80) was the worst with tractor-trailers and yugos flying past.
My bad - should've had Mazda road-side assistance give her a ride most or all of the way.
Picked her up Friday night and she's a whole new girl. I spent the weekend giving buddies joy-rides and showing the true nature of the beast under her hood.
Embarrasment over.

But having something like that for the 8 would be nice.

The rattling transmission does **** me off, as for embarrassment: Never.
Although my 8 did embarrass an 05 Mustang GT driver the other day... but that doesn't really count now does it?
