It's certainly not often.....only every once in a while....I'll have like one grind when going into 3rd gear from 2nd.....(its never on the downshift----4th to 3rd). The car has 1,100 miles on it. I started noticing it around 400-500 miles. If I had to say how many times I feel it------once/twice per day driving for 60 miles per day IN HEAVY traffic
I SURE hope this isn't the case with the Mazda.......GOD PLEASE!!!
I sure don't want to give them my tranny at 10k miles............

I have it as well, just a almost unoticeable little crunch shifing from 2nd to 3rd sometimes. I think the 3rd gear synchro is just a little bit weak. At this point I have nearly 7k miles and it hasn't grown worse since I first remember noticing it. As long as it stays like this I'm not going to take it for servicing beacuse of how difficult I think it would be to get a service tech to feel the problem. Then there is the issue of them taking apart the transmission, working on it, then putting it back together with out breaking something in the process.

I'm with Phook on this one....
I have about 7,500 miles, and I notice it occasionally. I've learned to just blip the gas a hair coming out of second... goes into third like buttah, baby. :p

Yeah, I noticed the upshifts into 2nd and 3rd can get kinda crunchy. I notice if I let off the throttle - and only slightly, right at the last second, and while I'm starting to push in the clutch pedal, it will snick quietly and securely into gear. (I've been having trouble remembering this all the time though) So matching gear speeds seems to be very critical.
It sounds like the "L" flash may make it easier to get a smooth shift since it is said it doesn't cut the throttle as quickly. I suppose it all depends what you are used to. My last car revved on a bit if I was shifting between heavier throttle applications.

Ok.........now its happening from 1st to second.........
I'm just beside myself......
But like another mentioned....it'd be tuff to reproduce. So.....I guess I'll just have to wait and hope to GOD it "goes away" on its own.....as a fellow owner has said it has done for him
