Anyone game for calling it FE?

I was thinking about that when I noticed on my vin for the rx-8 it's jm1fe. For those of you who don't know, throughout the generations of RX cars from mazda, they would change the letter after the f. For example the last generation rx7 had FD in the vin code and now most enthusiasts refer to the car as the FD. And for the 2nd generation rx-7, the na versions were known as the FC's. And so on.

I don't think it'll catch on anytime soon. Maybe when the next generation 8 hits the market and the current 8 will be more affordable for the younger generation, there will be even more of a tuning market for which they might start calling it FE. I just haven't heard anyone call it that yet.

FWI: I just found out our cars come with carbon fibre driveshafts. I'm psyched!

Once they change the car, and still call it an RX8, then MAYBE I will call it an FE.
The FB was just the RX7 till the change in '86.

That's funny.
Everyone just calls it an 8.
I suppose a few years down the road if the rotary gods smile upon us we may get to call ours the FE but it may always be the 8.

The one point 3 F8s

Maybe 1.3F8S will be my custom plate

(The three Fates were Klotho, Atropos, and Lachesis - Daughters of Zeus)

There's no need for the FE designation because there's only 1 generation of RX8 so far.

exactly

eventually the rx-8 could be called an fe once there are more rx-8s (hopefully).

also do you like fe3p or se3p better?

I wondered this myself just because everyone who owns a 3rd gen RX-7 calls it an FD, but that's so when they refeer to their car they can say they own an FD instead of going through the trouble of saying an rx-7 and then the generation (3rd) or year ('93-'95). Since there is only one generation of RX-8 (FE), there is no need to say FE, and actually easier to just saying "8" instead- it's shorter which is why people bother with the FD in the first place.
But I am sure once there is a next-gen RX-8 (if there is......) we will call the first-gens the FE.

just wondering... we called the 2nd gen rx7's fc because of the chasis code that was fc3s along side with the 3rd gen rx7's that where called fd's for fd3s. Wouldnt it be more politicly correct to call our rx8's se's just because our code is se3p? i would think keeping it with the first letter of "f" is holding on the dream that this was directly based or is the future rx7 even though its not and its completely different car than the 7's where. If there where to be a second gen rx8, it would probably have the code of sf3p (theoretically speaking due to trends based off the rx7's and other cars) and if there where to be the rx9, they would have a completely different code as well. Just my opinion and thoughts and sorry for all the wrong spellings and etc.

Do you guys even know how to use the search button?

It is LA-SE3P. That is the chassis code.

It won't be an "FE" because it isn't an RX-7. Even the first RX-7 was an "SA".
What do you want to call the RX-3? The "F-Z" since it would have to come before the alphabet?

IF there is another "generation" of RX-8 (thee won't be), it will also be a different chassis code and VIN identifier.

i do agree with what you're saying but i just said if there theoretically was a second gen rx8 and it follows the trend the rx7 went through (i.e. 2nd to 3rd gen), the chassis code may still be similar but different by what, one letter?

No, the the Mazda chassis code is P007... the aftermarket wrongly calls it SE3P. The P007 is what Mazda called the car in development and production (much like the FC was P747, and the FE was the P767). SE3P and FE3P are simply variations of the VIN.

No, regardless of if they call it a RX-8 or RX-7 or RX-9, the next gen rotary powered sports car that will replace the current RX-8 will be the FF in the VIN body style/code identifier or SF in Japanese.
