Awesome. Thanks guys, I'm going to check my warranty contract when I get back home. What I do know though is that it is a 3rd party one... but I wouldn't understand why some would offer Mazda direct and others not...

Does anybody have an extended warranty from Western General? I tried going to their site, but it only had information applying to dealerships that wanted to sell their plans..... so it's definitely not Mazda's thing which scares me a bit.

you guys don't have a clue. Extended warranties are useless. They don't work and are all run by fly-by-night operates who work hand-in-glove with dealers.

Thats a big source for dealer profit, split evenly with the "extended warranty" comnay.

If it ever came dome to it, good luck getting them to pay for any repairs on your car.

If you have extended warranty from Mazda directly then thats a different story.

No, I don't have a clue.. but it's not like I'm getting much information pertaining to selling it back and correcting my mistake. I'm still within my first year of ownership, so I'm glad I found out about this now.

I disagree. You can research and see how long a company has been around, they aren't all fly by night scams, and my first instinct would NOT be that the dealership is giving you the best price. To me dealers are like movie theaters - they offer the same candy and coke but at 3x the price.

Another thing to look into is see what type of policy it is. My plan is an exclusionary policy, which means if it isn't specifically excluded on the contract, then it is covered. Thus if they forgot to mention something (rotors, for instance), then it is included. This is in contrast to a lot of plans that list the items that ARE covered.

The Mazda extended warranty is not from mazda. It's actually a third party...you have to do some diging, but you eventually find out it's...

Basically EasyCare/APCO is a company that has Mazda USA as a client. All claims go through Easycare and APCO, not Mazda.

And make sure to read the fine print as everyone stated...many extended warranties require you use a dealer for ALL SERVICE SCHEDULES. This means if you change the oil yourself, you just voided your warranty! I **** you not! The Magg-moss act DOES NOT APPLY TO EXTENDED WARRANTIES! They can put whatever they want to in the contract and you have to follow it!

Extended warranties are not warranties, they are insurance policies. You might as well go to your regular insurance company for these types of policies. You can probably get a better deal for multi policies. I know that Allstate offers them because they send us solicitations all the time.

Personally, I have never bought one for any product, ever. I also set all deductibles to the highest that are offered. Through the years I have probably sent over a million dollars to insurance companies of all types and can guaranty that I have never collected anything over $50k total and that includes medical insurance.

Only insure what you can't afford to lose.

Oh, I did buy one once on a camcorder when camcorders were a couple of grand. Circuit City was offering 50% off on the camera if you bought their contract. Thing was, the service contract was fully cancellable in the first three days. Took the camera home and immediately went back the next day to cancel the contract and get the refund.

Have to digress... Best Buy's warranty has been great. Bought one when I bought Madden 2006... Xbox scratched the disk, brought it in and POW, new game.

But... okay... with these Western General guys, are they the people I contact about selling back my warranty? Or would I have to call the Mazda I bought the car from?

If you purchased yur warranty through mazda, it should work retrospectively...meaning you should be able to sell it back through the dealership if that's where you bought it from.

and yes, a warranty on a $50 video game is a lil different

Ford owns APCO completely. Shouldn't be any problem, just make sre you get the TotalCare or you'll find quite a bit not covered.
