Yup Frostee you hit the spot. It does cost alot. An average freight container can cost up to 5g's depending. I even heard of it going as low as 2g's. Now the bigger the more expensive. In the biggest containers you can fit in 4 compact cars. But you have to remember when you bring over a car from japan:#1 it has to be used. #2 it has to be at least 2 years old. And once you got it over, you have to install new cats on it, if you want it to be street legal. And then you have to register it at the DMV, get it smogged. So on and so forth. And since its used, its not worth bringing over. You can get a used 8 here in the states no problem. Unless the car is for purely track use its not worth it.

It's too new to be cheap. Japan's car licensing/tax system called "sha-ken" makes cars after about 4 to 6 years of age drop in price quite a bit. If you really want to import a Japanese car you might be better off looking for one of those as the price should be low enough to counter the costs of shipping and modification.

It's not that much to bring a container over to the US. From japan, I'm guess it's about 1.5k to 2k for a 20' container depending on the time of the year. And then you add in other loading charges, export custom clearance, etc it'd run you under 3k to bring the car over here. It's the import duty plus DMV, smog that might be a hassle.

Exporting the car is a lot less though because they need a way to get the containers overseas somehow so they basically sell it at cost..
