It's also easier to do so since they have the engine already, I just hope they get the bugs worked out before they release unlike with the MS6.
And who knows, maybe we will see some changes. Nucleus in the 2007 rx-8 thread in the rx8 news forum basically guarantees there will be more engine displacement, resulting in more power.

Power doesn't mean very much if your *** is too heavy. Hell it'll even feel faster, but it wont be. That's what torque does to ya, makes those endorphines go crazy. Torque has a way of distorting reality.

The MS6 is not just as fast as the 8. It's faster than the 8. You may claim torque make you feel fast and a way to distort reality...well please stop letting the all might 120wtq of your 8 distort your reality. The MS6 and MS3 will double the 8's torque and will certainly put at least 40whp more to the ground. Sure it wont be fast...

And if by HORRIBLY PUT TOGETHER you meant TMIC, Heavy hood, Ugly wheels, then I agree.
Besides who cares. There is always a car faster than another. Be happy that Mazda is building the cars that it is......even if they turn out to be no so good. At least they are trying.

MS3 should be a lot better simply by being almost SEVEN HUNDRED POUNDS lighter... it's gonna be a fun car to drive

I have to hate it. I can't possibly love it. You see, I have to hate them. I can't love the 3 or the 6. I must hate them. For they are not of us. I can't like them....no no no....that's what they want me to do. If I like them, then I might get others to like them, then people might buy them, but no. I have to hate them, they are not of the way. The way is of the Wankel, the brotherhood of the 8. I'll never concede to these people. No...I can't

the point i think for some is not comparing the 8 to other souped up cars like the SRTs of the world.. but if mazda can put in the R&D and money to get MS versions of the 6 and 3 out, they can do the same for the rx8... the 8 needs a refresher like most cars do, and working on an improved engine is the first step..
i agree with ike in that mazda is probably not making that move as they probably would lose money... and also, no one is saying we would trade in the 8 for a MS 6 or 3, or be jealous of them... but again, if mazda can do the special treatment for them.. they can do it for the rx8...

Same difference. The mid-year released RX-8 (in NA) was a 2004, as was the fall release of the Mazda3 (in NA). Released early, not a different model year, and we ARE talking in terms of model year when it come to lifecycle.
And... it doesn't matter anyway. Mazda is pushing capacity to produce what they do in Japan (the RX-8 and Mazda2 are in the same plant... remember the plant fire). Given a business decision of going with the MS3 first or MS8... it's a no-brainer. Especially since less development is needed reusing the MZR DISI turbo engine (which also helps to futher amortize the development costs of that engine).
Sorry Ike, try again.

And I said same difference.
They were released in the same model year.
The RX-8 is exclusievly produced in the Hiroshima, Japan plant along side the Demio/Mazda2.
The Demio/Mazda2 easily outsells the RX-8 in JDM and worldwide.
Mazda has a limited budget and limited production capacity.
The MZR DISI Turbo engine has been developed and deployed in the Mazdaspeed6, JDM MPV and CX-7... and will be in the Mazdaspeed3.
Given a choice between developing a Mazdapseed model of the RX-8 or Axcela/Mazda3... the 8 requiring engine R&D which cannot be amortized across other models... the Axcela/Mazda3 can readily accept the MZR DISI Turbo engine (development costs already paid)... lastly the large success the Axcela/Mazda3 has been worldwide and current popularity of turbo I-4 engines in the USDM... the decision is a no-brainer.
Mazda goes with the Mazdaspeed3 first (MY2007)and leaves the Mazdapseed8 for the following model year (MY2008).
HAPPY IKE?
