Anyone took off the farctory-installed spoiler?
My 8 came with the factory-installed rear spoiler. However, as my eyes get more used to the beautiful flowing lines of the RX8, I think it would be more "gorgeous" minus the rear spoiler. The spoiler seems to disrupt this beautiful flow.
One of the supposed negatives of the RX8 styling, besides appearing to be "plump" at the center, is that if you look the it from the rear-end, the "butt" looks way too high in the air. Of course, this might look sexy on a woman, but on a car, I prefer it to hug the ground.
Does anyone know how many holes the spoiler will leave behind?
thanks,

Hey Stig,
Don't you have sports cars to drive around the track?
Yeah, that would be an option. But, I don't see that many 8s in my part of the country, especially Sunlight Silver.
Dominion,
Thanks

Agreed. To me, the whole rear generally looks "too big." That's why I don't like the lower rear bumper painted to match the rest of the car; it makes the rear seem even larger. Leaving it black at least breaks it up a little, creating the illusion of a slightly smaller rear.

I do agree that initially I also thought the 8's looked better with the spoiler. However, after driving it for a few months I prefer it without.

i beg to differ... to me the 8 looks kinda "naked" without a spoiler- esp when u look at it from behind or from the side. but, as always beauty is in the eye of the beholder. i like the ms wing the best, but i have the oem.

The MS wing looks very nice, and you can install it over the factory spoiler as well. I wanted one without the spoiler but couldn't find anything I was willing to put money on without one so I bought with. It's grown on me, the spoiler was styled well to suit the car compared to other abortions out there like the one on the 90's eclipses.

A quick search should reveal that both the MS and Racing Beat spoiler are installed using the same holes as the factory spoiler. I remember reading that some where on this site. You could confirm via the Mazdaspeed site or Racing beat site. I have been thinking the same thing about the spoiler. It really spoils the lines of the car. Thank god this car doesn't have an external antenna, that would be worse looking and harder to fix.
Back to the topic at hand. The best part about the racing beat spoiler is that it is just a small lip spoiler as mentioned earlier int he thread. I too think that this would be the best compliment to the cars look. Lets face it, most of us will never use the aerodynamic advantage of a spoiler, so it is all about looks. This should confirm;
http://www.racingbeat.com/FRmazda4.htm ***I just checked the link and for some reason it is not loading to the spoiler page. Drop down menu on the left side to select "Body Components", then click on "RX-8 Rear Wing". Then....
See the second paragraph for mounting info.

Thanks,
It looks nice. Less "look at me" appearance. I'll call RacingBeat to ask them about whether theirs will fit directly into the factory holes.

If I did it over again, I would consider just a trunk lip spoiler instead of the MS wing (which I still love) or the factory spoiler (which I do not love). With the MS body kit and some other stuff, it looks great and smooth without spoiler.
