anyone visit www.carview.co.jp

i'm new here so if i'm behind, don't hit me... i noticed buger posted a review from carview once, but i haven't seen a thread about it ever since. maybe i'm just not looking hard enough. but they have total of 3 reviews there, one of them is the newest that they posted about 5 or so days ago. of course with all the car and driver and road and track and other reviews here in u.s., and you all being really up to date on everything rx-8, i'm lagging about a month or so...but i dunno, i like to get stuff from japan since i feel like i can relate more...i mean if you guys have seen the best motoring videos, maybe you know what i mean.... (?) maybe it's just because i'm japanese :p ....but anyway, old or not, i'm posting this just because i want to be more involved in the forum, and at least i feel like i've contributed to something . if it's old, someone can close the thread.

it's in japanese, if you want i can translate to the best of my abilities, but i don't have time right now cuz i need to go to office hours, so i'll come back sometime later. if you look on the bottom you'll see 4 links, 2 of them are previous reviews which you probably have seen already. anyway...my posts are too long for the amount of info, i'll improve on that in the future.
later.

ok, i'm back, i'm just going to translate some interesting sounding parts.

"went to laguna seca to test out the prototype in january 2003. before knowing it, it's already march, and we are driving the production car in motegi. i'm sure mazda had many parts they wanted to improve on, and this time around that is the primary focus.

"the quality of the instrumental panel, dashboard, even more intricate parts like the precision of body welding, carpet, sounds, have been improved.

"the exterior looks slick, but you know how good this car is once you sit in the rear seat. mazda knows the importance of keeping the sporty image while seating 4.
the interior's atmosphere is is also very good. a disctinctive feature is the fact that the bulge in the hood goes right in the center, follows the console, through the car and into the rear, as if showing that the power under the hood goes into the rear tires.

"the seats are also well made. when you first sit down it does not feel like it is restraining you so much. but when you start riding around, the seat holds you snug in place. the position of the shift **** is right where your arm falls, and you can ride hard without having to move your arm a great distance.

"the engine has generally not changed. however, in the handling.... there's a slight difference. the ride is a little harder, but not harder in the sense of harshness. it is in the sense of body roll. previously, the car would take corners in a "whoaa" kind of way, but now it takes it in a "whoa" way. in other words, the front tires that seemed uneasy now seem more grounded and stable. as a result, corners can be taken harder.

"at laguna seca, there was greater roll, causing the back to slide often. as a 4 seater sports car, we saw this as acceptable. however, it seems that mazda did not want to compromise steering precision and stability just because of its image, and wanted to portray the rx-8 as a true sports car in that area. that does not mean that the joy of throwing the car around has diluted. it is just at a more controllable level, and feels stable even when drifting (?). [the question mark is in the review, not mine :P]

"there is a secret to the dynamic stability control system (DSC). turning on the engine, the DSC is automatically engaged. push the button once, it turns off. in this setting, when the braked hard or the rear slides excessively, it will turn back on. however, mazda seems to have seen this as not fun enough, so by holding down the DSC button for 5 seconds, with the exception of ABS, you can turn the feature completely off.

"the taste of this car resembles that of the rx-7 and the miata. but with slight differences, the rx-8 is put on a level of rx-8 alone, bringing a new taste to rotary sports."

whew...umm that's the best of my translation abilities. all the people who can read japanese in this forum, if you see anything wrong, please say something.
ok time to study.

I was not aware it had a 'less sensitive' setting, just by pushing the DCS button once. I knew you could turn it completely off.

Thanks for translating!
