Appearance Similarities Of the 8 and the New Corvette
Anybody else notice the appearance similarities between the 2005 Corvette hatchback and the RX8? I sure could use some of their 400 HP. Beautiful new Corvette.

Kinda funny.
I think it has to do with the Aston Martin designers that Ford put on the RX-8 concept car and the fact that Tom Peters (Corvette Designer) is a big fan of Aston Martin.

I too have seen the similarities between the RX-8 and Corvette. When I saw the C&D episode on the new Corvette I got excited thinking they were having the RX-8 on the show again! There are angles that, at a quick glance, makes you think you were looking at an RX-8. Both cars in red are close too.

the main difference is a RX8 can go round corners
the shape is very nice but its just missing a few things IMO cant say what just is
Corvettes never sell outside the US for that reason alone every car show and mag in Europe will rate them but never suggest you buy one! strange but true, 911 are every where and if i was spending $150,000 + on a car i would proberly go for mid range 911 or a used Modena

I'd dare say the Corvette can hold its own around corners as well.
I don't understand your sentence about $150K...are you saying the Vette costs that? Where?

Can't knock the 'vette in performance - it'll stomp most Italian and German cars at double and triple the cost (note that I said "most"). Styling's a different story - that's totally subjective. I think the new one looks like they wanted the front to be a Ferrari and the back to be a minivan (it's got a huge ***!)
It may be plastic. I may have a bit of the "redneck with money" factor... but I'm not going to challenge one at the strip or track. Hell, it probably gets better gas mileage than us!

It is estimated to cost $40,000, has a six liter small block v8 rated at 400 H.P. (the most powerful stock engine ever produced by Chevy), and combined gas mileage is estimated at 22 MPG. Wow! what a car.

thats less that what i am payin for a Rx8!
thought they where alot more than that! the $150k is around what you have to pay for a good sports car like a Ferrari (used) of a 911 but if you want THE best sports car its only 114l new .......a TVR Tuscan!
but i would never buy a vette just the whole ethos around them

Ferrari is in court over the design of the 05 vette in Italy with Chev in regards to the identical front end as the 360 Modena...
Look at those 2 head on sometime - scary...

Big mistake to lose the pop up headlights.

Wonder if the 8 would look more like the FD if it had pop ups?

Vette can't turn? That is totally not true. Top Gear did a review on the C6 and it did quite well on the track. It was half a second AHEAD of the 911 GT3 at the track. Check out the video: http://www.aooo30.dsl.pipex.com/Top....orvette.C6.zip
The only thing I don't like the new vette is the new headlight design. Why no pop up headlight?

Heck, I'll take one. It is one of the best performers for the money and is a beautiful automobile. If I ever had the means to get a 2nd car to play around in, I sure wouldn't overlook this beauty!

I think there's a new regulation regarding pop-up headlights and pedestrian safety which is why you don't see pop-ups on many new cars anymore. Not sure if it's just a UK/Euro thing or if its a US thing also.

I actually prefer the no-popup headlights. I drive with my lights on all the time and when a car has pop-up headlights I think it breaks up the smooth lines of a car.

I like the new Corvette despite its headlights. That statement about a Vette not able to take corners is totally ignorant! I think you are mistaking common muscle cars for a Corvette buddy.
