I think it will look good. If you change your mind later you can always add a nice aftermarket wing

Check the link in my signature - appearance package, no spoiler (I didn't like it either). It's Yellow, but you'll get the idea.

Here's mine, with Sunlight Silver.

I believe AP w/ no rear spoiler is the way to go.

I think the stock spoiler is nicely done

and looks great combined with the app. package. Either way, the back end of the 8 will still look good.

Don't even bother with the appearance package right now. Get your car without anything and buy the accessories from Trussville or Rosenthal (vendors on this site). Take advantage of their prices and, more importantly, the Mazda Accessory Rebate! Spend over $500 and get 20% rebate from Mazda. That's WAY cheaper than buying it from the dealer and you won't have to deal with what THEY think looks good or not on the car.

To be honest that would be a RARE find to have a appearance package without the spoiler. I'm sure the dealership does not have that set-up on the lot so they're only going to push cars on the lot.

Good luck.

I have the appearance pack and spoiler, and not fond of the spoiler - a little too "boy racer" for this old fart.

By the way, TPryor DOES NOT have the appearance pack (which is the front splitter below the black part of the front end, as well as the side skirts in front of the rear wheels.

Here's a link to my webshots album of my car, and I not-so-artfully deleted the wing on one photo for you (using good old photoshop) so you can see the effect.

http://community.webshots.com/album/179487478pcYsZM

Good luck finding one without the wing AND with the appearance pack. Very difficult to find.

One thing I do like a whole lot on my car, however, is the Rotary Accent Package - a lot of $$ to pay for a couple of aluminum triangles, but what the hell ...

310 guy is right. Buy the base model and add on exactly what you want, at discounted prices.

I've seen that setup, and it looks fine. It's your car, do what you want and don't listen to the morons at the dealership. Let me guess, they have one with the AP and the rear spoiler and they want you to buy it. On the other hand, if they had the setup you want, the salesperson would be saying how nice it looks and the rear spoiler ruins it. They're just trying to sell you a car as fast as possible. Don't listen to a thing they say. They're trying to SELL you a car!

Really - I'm glad you did your research. The appearance package consists of the front air dam, the rear aero flares and the side aero flares. Do you see any of those things missing from the attached photos???

I don't mind being ACCUSED of being stupid, but do your homework next time..............

AND, mine has the appearance package and no rear wing - wasn't THAT hard.

I think the Appearance Package without the spoiler is cool. I didn't opt to get one; I'm saving my pesos for the BN Sports kit.

Actually, you had to go to the page of "hi-res" photos. The first ones that I saw on the link were your "on the way home" pictures....no package. I had the same thought, but I looked a bit deeper.....

I say go with the MazdaSpeed Spoiler, I am saving up for that one. My Rotary Mechanic Friend says he can get me one under $700.

What RX22 said, which is what Jeffjett said, which is what 310guy said...

I'm not very original, but there's no reason you shouldn't be!

Yeah, I had paid for it originally, but it proved to be quicker to deliver the car and have the dealer install the appearance package a couple of weeks later.

Sorry dude, guess I didn't look deep enough - the first few photos didn't have the front air dam ("splitter")

I noticed you had both the borla and RB exhaust. Why did you put both on your car? Which did you prefer sound/performence wise?

It came down to an annoyance. The way the Borla was made, slip fit joints and clamps, every 2 - 3 autocrosses put enough stress on the joints to cause them to swivel a small amount. Then it would start to rattle where the muffler was touching the heat shield (it's very close anyway - on the drivers side). I would adjust it, and it would last a couple of more months.

The RB bolts to the converter and bolts to the muffler assembly. NO chance of it rattling, ever!

The Borla would have lasted fine if the car was only street driven, and I would never have replaced it. I LOVE the sound the Borla made..........

The RB unit is a very high quality unit, sounds good (but it's MUCH quieter than the Borla), and will probably last forever. The one on my Miata looked as good after 4 years as it did the day I put it on.

And, I may be crazy, but the car seems to respond better in the middle of the rev range with the RB unit - perfect for auto-x.

Does the RB still give a deeper sound than the stock unit? or is it close to stock?

Do you have any high flow cats on your 8 btw, or just cat back systems?

Thanks

It looks great both ways. I was on the fence for a long time. At first I was leaning to no spoiler, as I felt the lines were cleaner without it. Then later it grew on me and I felt the appearance pkg looked incomplete without the spoiler. I'm happy with my choice to go with the spoiler, but I think that the appearance pkg without the spoiler is a bit more unique and wedge like in its look. (downside of the spoiler is it does block rear vision a little.)

RB is definitely deeper and throatier than the stock unit, as well as a little bit louder. It also makes a MUCH better sound than stock, in my opinion.

Stock otherwise, just a cat-back system.

I have velocity red with the appearance pack and no wing and never have given it a second thought. I am not a big fan of the stockr wing and IMHO the car looks more elegant without it. The appearance pack itself makes the car look much more agressive and custom. I have some good photos at home and can post them later.

I was at some friends house during the Indy 500 who live right across from the track and my car was parked in their driveway and hundreds of people walked by and I got tons of favorable comments. A friend of theirs was down from Detroit who works for Dodge specifically on Vipers and his first comment to me upon seeing the car was, "Is that stock??"

I bought from the dealer: winning blue, touring package, with appearance package, WITHOUT spoiler. I then added factory front mud flaps myself. I like the combination, both from a looks point of view and functionality.

FWIW, I think the appearance package without spoiler is fine!
