Attention Marylander's
Well, this isnt JUST for Marylander's but I know they can relate..........the weather in the past month has blanketed us with snow and when I bought my 8 back in October my Dad reminded me that I might have trouble in the snow(at the time I didnt care cause I loved the car and wanted it and still dont regret my decision). Well its gotten to the point where on a day with light snow I cant even get out of my parking spot......any suggestions? Its not a huge deal right now because I live 1/2 a mile away from work and have my gf take me since its on her way but I might be getting a new job soon about 25 minutes away and wont have that luxury. I've heard sandbags and snow tires......anything else?

BS to everyone who says this car is no good in the snow. It's the OEM tires that have no business in the white stuff. 99% of the time you won't even need snow tires. A set of quality all-seasons will do the trick in Maryland. I use Pirelli P-Zero Neros (245-40-18) and go snowy places easier than in our Mazda3 (On it's OEM all seasons.) Coupled with the DSC/Traction control (is your's equipped?) this car is DEFINITELY a 4 season vehicle. Some owners will swear by having two sets of wheels/tires, but for me, the high performance all seasons were a perfect, cost-effective compromise. Good luck!

Surprised no one has said SEARCH! This is a car that is sold with performance SUMMER tires. They are for summer not winter. You must buy winter tires. If not for yourself than for everone else on the road.
Do you wear sandals in the snow? No you wear boots, same applies to your car.
Added:
Also its not just the snow its whenever the temp gets below 45 degrees. You need a winter tire or at worst a good all season when operating at freexing temps.
My winter tires get more grip than my summer's ever did even above 50 degrees.

I have a PT Cruiser that I use as a winter beater, but when my son put it in the body shop for a month this winter, I replaced my stock tires with all season radials (Bridgestones) and they go just fine in light snow. Better than stock in the rain too, I think. I may get another set of rims/summer tires -- but I'll wait until it gets hot before I decide.
However, I still don't want to expose my baby to the salt, sand and potholes, so I'm back in the Cruiser. I got pelted at close range by a line of sand/salt trucks this morning -- I'm glad I wasn't in the 8.

i take the metro to work when it snows, i commute from college park to bethesda.
winter tires definetly helps a lot, most people I know have a beater like an old carolla or aveo or metro etc. but it wont be snowing too much more after today, spring is right around the corner

I know! I was going to get a beater but I just bought a house so thats where a lot of my money has went. I'd really rather not drive it in the snow but last year it wasnt that bad and figured if I could make it through this winter I'd just wait till the fall and buy a beater Jeep or something. Thanks for the info!

I'm in California, now, but I spent some good years in Maryland
Cook Mazda in Maryland near Abrdeen used to be a pretty good dealership - they treated me good when I bought my 323 - and then when I was shopping for my 8!
Get onto some back roads to really enjoy the 8 - although on 95, it should do well all the way to rush hour traffic (which sucks no matter what you drive) - find out how to get to crab shack out on the Bush River - ask locals for directions, best crabs occur in August-
