Auto 05 Rx8.....Just not pulling that hard...?

WBRotary! - The 6speed auto flappy paddles are an absolute blast to drive around, and track with. I don't feel that it is as sloppy as you describe it. When I am just putting around, it has a casual gear change, but when I beat the living hell out of the car (track only) they change with very little hesitation. Sure it's not an SMG or a dual clutch, but it is still fun as hell

Flexplate not flywheel, automatics don't have a flywheel

Maybe the 4 speed was slow, as that's what I had. Yes we all know automatics are faster on a track because they
can shift faster but that does not include the AT transmission in the 8. The AT in the 8 is still a slushbox and the MT will perform better assuming you know how to drive. Yes you don't have to heel-toe downshift into a corner and that makes it easier because you just
have to hit the - paddle. Regardless MT>AT
Paddles are easier than shifting, we all know this, but considering Mazda didn't develop a special AT transmission for this car the MT will perform better on a track, once again, assuming you know how to drive one.

Dont make fun Scott, its true... You of all people should know it...
The AT transmisson is nothing special, its not a SMG etc. When temps starting getting high delayed shifts start to happen, atleast on the 4 speed, and dont say they dont because you havent had a AT 8...
Driving both I can tell you (should be fairly obvious), that hitting a paddle is virtually the easiest thing out there right now, theres no doubt about it, but the fact that the AT transmisson wasnt designed to be the main transmisson in the 8 means it has the usual slushbox flaws... I can only say this for the 4-speed/ 4 port AT rx8 but I dont see why the 6 speed AT would be any different... Just different ratios and 2 more gears...

Hmmm, so what about swapping out my 05 at with like an 06 or 08, would that make any difference?
I know there is a lot of extra weight, Is there any ways to reduce it?: Ive heard that the carbon mt driveshaft is the same as the auto just carbon,,, is that true and if so should i get one off line and switchem.

Automatics are giant hydraulic pumps so energy is converted differently than a gear box. Low torque is not good for automatics. My Corvette is 4 speed auto and it chirps the tires shifting into 2nd gear with like double+ the torque and pulls quarters under 14 (bone stock).

I actually have owned an 09 AT and got rid of it. Now own an 04 MT and have to say although older I prefer the MT. It feels a lot more natural to me and it is faster, and I love the short shifter and gearbox.
