Auto -> 6MT Conversion Discussion
Hello, I am thinking about doing a 6MT conversion on my cousin's handed-me-down auto rx-8. I think the only parts i need for the conversion is a 6Speed tranny and a manual ECU, correct? I would also like some opinions from people who have done the conversion and see how hard and/or expensive it is. thank you in advance.

Even if you succeed with the transmission swap, your car will still be underpowered. A hand-me-down RX-8 is no doubt going to be the 4 port variety.
All you'd be doing is making that car completely worthless.

hey Assault, welcome to the forum.
Unfortunately you most likely have the 4 port engine which means a transmission swap swill be very expensive and most likely not solve your problem; that the AT is slower then MT.
Quite a few members here have traded in their AT's and gotten MT's for a nominal out of pocket expense. Just look for an 04 or 05 MT and it shouldn't be too tough on the wallet. (better then going through the conversion expense)

Huge waste of time and money to do a conversion, and it still won't change the fact that the auto you have probably has 197 hp and the MT has 232 hp. Also, the MT revs to 9000. The MT is practically a totally different vehicle. Do yourself a favor and just sell the auto and buy a MT.
