Only if you went FI other then that the only thing that will make 20-30 rwhp is the int-x. I dont know about the cobb ap yet since i havent seen any A/T dyno numbers yet. With the right about of money the Auto has potential.

I suggest that you go with the manual, because upgrades to your DRIVEtrain is required to increase powerband capacity. In other words you when u do upgrades to your engine transmission must be able to handle it. So with and automatic there are little to no upgrads to control the power.

please never give advice here again.....there is no valvetrain on the 8....no valves....no pistons...no crankshaft.....no cams....none of that junk.....and the auto tranny is pretty stout on the 8....but it is also a motor with less power than the 6mt.....lower redline and 2 less ports on the 04.......so unless you go FI such as turbo or supercharger then its not worth it......and with FI your near the MT's hp any way......so in short......NO

I don't know what your situation is and why you would consider the automatic, but... manual

And why would you get an auto? And you should probably drive an RX-8 first before you scheme up some list of go-fast parts that you think it will need. You'd be surprised how well a bone stock RX-8 does in the hands of the right driver.

Your asking a question that has every chance on bringing out the ****-retards hell bent on their manual version or nothing one-sighted comments as they display their lack of understanding of the RX-8's practicality.

My 03-model 4AT has plenty of potential against the every day traffic. Sure I'll get whipped by the exotic stuff but who cars when their machinery is triple the cost.

Enjoy what ever version you choose, dont let the manual-or-die retards influence your decision

Check out the AT performance subsection of Aftermarket Performance. You can read about what works and what hasn't for AT owners written by AT owners.

engine light on 5x's

05 RX8 auto, wifes car.. in the last 5 months her eng light has come on 5x's and she has taken it back to the dealer. she has 50,0000 miles on the car. They have said it has been carbon build up to or were reflashing.

This last time they replaced the spark plugs and de-carboned again. The service adv. ask if she had been using reg. unleaded, which we have since we bought it. The saleman told us it would be ok, that premium was only recomended.

I told her for 2.5 yrs nothing like this [ eng.light] coming on so many times in a few months?
She said it was accomulating over time ?. Each time the eng. light would come on we would ask and she would say some codes?

I am going to fill her tank up with premium and see what happens? I think they don't know and are fishing around .

Also I have put in Seafoam 2 x's this yr.?

Regular or Premium has nothing to do with Carbon build up. ITs just that the way your wife drives the car. Im not bashing your wife, but this is exactly what is going on with the car. she is too easy on the car.

Just de-carb it following my DIY, u'll be back on the road in no time.

and if your car works with Regular, use it. Just use some name brand gas and u'll be fine.

Take it to a few autox sessions throughout the year. That should clean the carbon right out

Reads like your wife drives like mine.

This is why I give mine a dose of hell each weekend when I hop into it. Clears out any carbon build up from a weeks worth of putting around to the shops etc.

Just loved her comment from last weekend when we went out as a family......

Q-"How come the RX-8 revs higher & sounds like a rotary when you drive it & not when I do.?"
A- "Its called Manual mode dear"

With a few exceptions, there is no one on this thread that has the slightest idea of what they are talking about when it comes to the AT (or in one case a rotary). Nycgps realizes the potential as do a few others. You don't have to like it, just realize it's a viable option. If TrixR4kids would have done just a little home work he would have found his answer instead of being told about his "valve train".
