Automatic: Breaking & Veering
I did a search for AUTOMATIC and unbelievably came up with nada. So I just want to ask a question to those who have automatic RX8's if they have experienced the following problem:
When you slow down (in STOP N GO traffic) do you feel the car veering to the right?
I have experienced this a few times and didn't know if it is a known problem so therefore that is why I posted this POST.
peace

Original Turbo 'd Auto !!
I haven't noticed any pull to the right. I usually have my hands on the wheel as I slow down. I'll try braking and coasting tomorrow morning and try to sense any pull to the right.

Actually I have. And its not just under braking. Just letting off the throttle. Its pretty subtle. Sort of reminds me of a front drive car. I assume its the alignment (probably the rear) but could be a shock. I actually took it in for an alignment but sure nuff, no one had asked for one before and they didnt have a map in their alignment computer for an RX-8 (this was a Mazda dealer in April), and I havent had time to bring it back.

It's not the tranny causing this but it is the wallows (low spot) in the road. These are caused by the weight of vehicles causing the asphalt to sink leaving a high spot down the center. The wider tires tend to trammel up out of the center of the wallow or it could be the crown of the road. casuing the car to track to the lowest spot in the road.

More than likely it's due to the road condition. You probably braked in an area with low spots caused by heavy vehicles like truck, semis, etc. Try braking in a smooth area like a parking lot. You will notice that your car will not pull.

I have a auto and yes it does this due to what Rotarynut said. i call it railroading. i have learned to deal with it. Mine seems to want to pull to the left . I have noticed on old roads that have deep rails is where it happens. Wonder if the manuel guys feel it also? I feel its because our tires are 18" and the rails where made by 16 and 15 inch tires.

Yeah - I took it out this past weekend all over the place and it only happened a few times where the road dips - one place which is near my house which I drive thru all the time... phew!
