I'm not going to say you're going to win against a Veyron or something, but it absolutely makes a difference.
I realize there is torque, but at 3000rpm there's not much more than at 2200rpm. There's no torque compared to a car you could actually perform a neck snapping, tire shredding AT launch with. There's virtually no difference in "launching" with or without brake stalling the car. The power band doesn't actually kick in until ~4k, and brake stalling at 3k (actually 27-2800rpm) will not get you there any faster. RPM drops as soon as you move. So I guess I should've said that there's not enough torque.

I'd personally be very surprised if what you were saying was true. However, since I don't have any real evidence other than feel I guess I don't have much else to say.

Someone has done a torque v. RPM graph on here and torque doesn't really kick in till 3K and is best at 4K+.

That's not the issue though. If you rev it up and launch you'll get to the powerband faster. I honestly just don't even see how this can possibly be a discussion. Go find an automatic anything, rev it up slightly, and you will spin the tires. That's gotta mean more power.

Works on higher torque vehicles or maybe fwd vehicles, but not on the 8. Ok maybe you get to the powerband .2 seconds faster, but that's hardly worth the strain on the transmission. With the tall gears and low torque, the only way you'll break the tires loose is in abnormal road conditions or a u-turn.

I've done it before, and from experience there is very little if any difference. With FI it'd be different, but as it is.../shrug.

Hmm, you might be right. I've never tried it on a RWD vehicle.

I have tried it in my auto rx8. It does not go into gear until 2.5k rpms, kinda disappointing but its probably programmed to protect the transmission. I have also tried this with traction control off same results. It's best just to hold the brake down.
