back doors

I was wondering if someone could take some pictures of the hinges on the back doors.
I am looking to do a suicide conversion on my car and was curious if the hinges would be able to work
I would greatly appreciate it
by the way I love the RX8s
Thanks Smig

suicide conversion? aren't the rear doors already suicide? as for making the front doors suicide...that would end using the rear doors probably...if not it would end the the structural integrety of the door frame (B-Pillar) and you can't get into the back seat unless both doors are open

what are you trying to do? now I'm curious

He might be saying that he doesn't own an 8 and wants the back doors on his particular car to work like the ones on the 8.

The shop manual diagrams attached may help. Don't have time to take a picture right now. Good luck with your project, it will definitely not be easy if possible at all.

There's far more to it than a set of hinges. The rear doors house a large, hardened steel latching mechanism that, when the door is closed, engages top to bottom in the door opening at the front edge of the door - this serves as side impact protection and is a structural replacement for a B-pillar.

The hinges are hard to see even with the doors wide open, due to the way they open. Go to a Mazda dealer and look at them if you're that interested.

But "suiciding" the doors can be accomplished simply by using the same hinges and moving them to the back of your door. Watch the show "Pimp my Ride". That's how they do it. And they do the whole car in only a half hour, so it can't be that difficult.

Smig, I can probably take pictures of my doors for you sometime this weekend if you need them still. Shoot me a PM if you do.
