Back slipping with Yoko AD07s in 2nd AND 3rd gear!? WTF?
Just got a spanking new engine replaced after a water damage and thanks to all the people here that gave good advice.
So I got the car back and put in a few parts that have been sitting for a while..autoexec body kit, carbon fiber K&N RAM intake box, new SA70TT 18-in rims and Yokohama AD07s.
I've been going easy on the car since new engine needed break-in last couple of weeks... then I have been having a little fun these few days... when I swap into 2nd from 3rd at 6.5k, the back would be sliding left and right with the DSC flashing for a good 2-3 secs then the car shoots off... this also happens swapping from 4th to 3rd to overtake... my god.. prolonged wheel spin in 3rd???? It doesn't even happen to my M3! I can't go fast at all..
I've got 265 AD07s sitting in the back and 235 AD07s sitting in the front, these are good tyres as I have the same on my FD with 400hp wheel and I don't get this kind of slipperage.... the last time I experienced this kind of slipperage was in my FD with A048 track tyres on in the RAIN! kind of like driving a boat
Now I have no guts going fast thinking the car would slam into a wall corning... any thoughts? Engine is complete stock.
By the way, the K&N RAM sounds very nice but I really doubt it adds much power.

Maybe they gave you the new 16x by mistake or a spanking new 20b. If not that then I don't what the hell to tell you. Have fun though. Maybe get some sway or autoexe braces.

so you're saying that your AD07s are slipping in 3rd? wtf? maybe the tires are defective? someone egg pranked your tires? maybe they need cleaning? did u put lube on them? something? AD07s are really good tires and they should grip very nicely
maybe the mazda engineers gave u an REW with upgrades to 500whp?

Where do u live?? Is the ground cold? Plus the car has been sitting for a while right? Try warming up the tires by just driving it around and see if it still breaks loose. Also, are u letting off the clutch fast? I mean I have no trouble getting my rear wheels loose when shifting into 3rd on cold pavement!

yeah. I am in awe too. AD07s are as good as street tyres gets and in that size, i still can't believe it. It is quite cold where I live (about 3-6'C at night) but not enough to ice the roads. I always rev match to shift.
We did the compression checks and everything is normal when I collected the car back so it is definitely stock. Adding a K&N does not give this kind power... 2 or 3 hp would be ball park..
I just took her out for a spin again and it is still happening. Call me crazy but I would expect this to happen in my FD or M3 but not my 8...just hope my new engine is not going to die soon as this is my 4th 13B...the last got flooded and one before that died in my FD in a race and it pulled real strong like this before the seals got spit out from the exhaust.

1935 lbs. FTW!
Not for 2-3 seconds. And he's not on stock potenzas, he's on a very sticky high performance AD07 neova that comes stock on the Lotus Elise except he has them in a 265 rear tire which is even larger than stock. Something doesn't add up here.

Good point, that's quite a large stagger for a car that came with no stagger. The wheel speed sensors are probably freaking out. My M3 did that once when I had to use some mismatched tires for a day while waiting for some others to come in.

Super obvious Q, and please don't take it wrong, but did you (or whoever put the tires on) put them on the wrong way? If they're wrong sided and the treads are facing the wrong way that would cause your slipping.

I've got money that says it was cold out when it happened. I drove on Adavns for about a week in cold temps and they get slippery as hell when temps get below 55 or so.
