backing up thud

just got a new rx8 (silver/black leather and GT package). When backing up, there is an occasional thud sound. This happens when either backing up straight or when I turn the wheels hard to the left or right at the end of backing up, but does not happen every time - that is it is now and then. Any ideas?
Also the car had 390 miles on it, but the dealer is new and thought that perhaps the car was delivered from another dealer - meaning that is was driven to them from somewhere in CA. Not an issue, but...
Thanks!

I would definately take it in to the service dept. and have them listen to it. I hope it goes well.

I wouldn't worry about it. It was your anti-lock brakes doing a self-test.....

I'm not "joshing you" do a search, you'll find other theads on this topic. I actually mentioned this to my dealership when I went in to change my oil. And that is what they told me as well.

Ya...I hear the thud also. My girlfriend and I have had ours for 4500 miles now. Anytime we start her up, especially first starts of the day, there will be a "thud" when we start to move. Being that it's the first car that we've owned with ABS, it kinda spooked us at first. No biggie, self-test as someone stated.

It was most likely the ABS - or your neighbors cat

Brought my car into the dealer a while back and they adjusted my brakes. Now i'm thud free. I still hear the occasional headlight adjustments though
