Hi there, I am currently thinking about getting some subwoofers installed into my Rx8, and i was wondering if removing the bar that the spare tire connects to has any other purpose than to hold the tire. Is it a bar to protect against crashed? Help with suspension? Any advice would be helpful. Just wondering if removing that bar will have a detrimental effect to the feel of the car or to my safety. Thanks in advance.

 

That bar is part of the optional spare tire kit. It is missing unless the buyer paid an extra $400 to get the spare (I did!).

Enjoy the extra space when you remove it.

 

someone needs to make a rear strut bar/spare tire holder.....

 

What RotrDoc said. I didn't buy the spare tire, and I don't believe I have any such bar.
