Battery Completely dead?

Hey guys.. Well.. 2 days ago my 8 was running fine. I come home from work at around 1030pm and start the car the next day around 4pm. Problem is, car doesn't start? All I hear is a clicking sound when I turn the key. I just got some jumper cables this morning and I tried to start the car.. Nothing.. All I hear is that damn clicking sound when I turn the key. I called my uncle who owns a shop, he thinks the battery is completely dead. Would the battery be the only cause? I also need some gas, I'm pretty much right at the E. I haven't checked the oil level.. Actually I am now.. But would lack of oil cause = clicking sound, car not starting? I don't think a car w/o gas would make that sound.

Thanks to anyone who helps..

Could be battery...starter..wiring...

Battery is easy to test....so is starter....if both of those are good..check the wiring

I'd say check the battery first, sounds like she doesn't have enough juice to do much more then click the starter solenoid. Does the rest of the car power on; stereo and so on?

The clicking sound is your starter.

A weak battery may not have enough power to have the starter fully engage the flywheel. It can also be (as dannobre mentioned) a loose contact on the battery terminal or an issue with the wiring.

My positive terminal had a loose connector once and caused this same issue. As dannobre mentioned:

- Check battery
- Check starter (Seems like you have an '07 which comes with a revised starter)
- Check terminals and wiring (I bet it's this if it isn't the battery)

Well to update, yes, the radio works, the lights work. I just put in some gas so that isn't the problem. Oil seems fine.

I've been hearing it could be the starter.. I want to take the battery to some auto place and have them check it. Could be the wiring.. My license plate connection went out like a month ago. Could it be just bad wiring throughout the car?

Hmm.. I'll let you guys know when I check the battery..
I'll check the connections on the battery as well.

After you get it going, check the charging system too.

Alright my uncle came over and tested the battery and everything.. It's dead. He had a spare used one in his trunk and it worked once I installed it. He said the starter, alternator, is working fine. So now I need to buy a new battery.. Weird.. Didn't think a car battery would die after 3 years pretty much (2007).

Now quick question.. Is there a difference in brands? Car batteries? What's a good one to buy?

Well since you are in FL a battery with a CCA of 630-640 should be fine for you since it rarely gets that cold down there. I just bought a optima red top battery with CCA of 720, no problems so far and starts up no problem even in single digit temps. Also it depends on the price you want to pay and warranty you get with the battery. Auto Zone and Sears have good batteries too. Many people forget that almost all batteries need maintenance, You need to take the caps off and check the water level in the battery.
