Talking "Beep Beep"

Anybody remember the old 50's song "Beep Beep"? Anybody ever thought about how it applies to the RX-8? :D

(what is the 8's top speed in 2nd gear, anyway?)

Is the song your looking for the theme song for the Road Runner cartoon series?

Top speed in 2nd gear is about 65 mph or just over 100 kph.

sounds about right.. then again i've missed 4th and found second at 100 mph and it gladly went in and put my tach and inch and a half past 10k... right next to the digital speedometer

Yeah, juikster has the song. I wasn't looking for the song, I know it, I just wondered who remembered it. The idea of a car doing 120 in 2nd was absurdly comical, but with the 8 it almost seems attainable.

The current lambo murcelego will do 72 in FIRST gear! Ive tested that one out myself....muwhaha!

lots of the fast cars of today will do up to about 62 (100kph) in FIRST so that they can get a little quicker 0-60 times....since they have such massive wads of power, they can use these really tall gears to get a great top speed as well as fast accel!

WOW You were lucky. I did that once with a RX4 (only a 4 speed) and the clutch disc blew so quick it was instant neutral! Was coming down the grape vine into LA and coasted until the next uphill and had to wait for a tow. Belive it or not Mazda covered the repair!

Aha. I never knew that, thanks. Now it finally makes sense to me why people used to make a big deal about having "four on the floor".

so basically, your saying you can go FASTER than the magazines that did 5.9 with an 8000 RPM clutch bomb, but you did it WITH a passenger in the back? Riiiiiiiiiiiiight.

This isn't as unbelievable as everyone is making it sound. He's got a guy in the back seat running a stop watch and eyeballing the speedometer. Obviously there is inaccuracy in the starting and stopping of the stopwatch and the speedometer is also going to be a couple of mph optimistic. This is probably really a 0 to 58 time. And the guy ing back could actually be helping traction.

Doug, I used to race a 1962 Dodge Lancer 426 hemi among other things.

I remember the song. My brother had the 45. Sometimes we made the song go even faster by playing it in 78. I still not sure I get the "stuck in 2nd gear" joke though.
