Best engine oil?
#4
I hope when i have questions when i buy, which i will, that i won't get ragged on too badly for reposts, since i'm new here. but as a note, for some cars there are better oils. wrx sti's, from what i understand, really prefer dino oil to synthetics. but i don't think it matters as much with the 8.

Sti's, like most turbo cars, flow engine oil through the turbo whether it be mineral or synthetic, where does the transmission come into play?
I think they're referring to gearbox or diff oil.

yeah, i know, but the synchro going into fifth had problems with synthetic oils, or so i'm told. i'm just the messanger, please don't shoot. and yeah, i'm just saying that sometimes the oil matters, but it doesn't really seem like it with the 8.

The characteristics of the Rotary engine involve it burning small amounts of oil from time to time and it has been stated that mineral based oils burn better.
The genuine Mazda oil here in Australia is formulated/recommended for rotary engines is a mineral based oil with a viscosity of 5W-30.
It even comes with a label on the back stating that usage of synthetic and semi synthetic oils in PRE-Renesis engines are not recommended.
I use to use synthetic Castrol Formula R in my 8 and have decided to switch back to Mazda Rotary Oil just to be safe, even though you can run synthetic in the Renesis.
I think of it as an extra precautionary measure.
Just my 0.02c.
