My apologies wannahave. I read it on this site somewhere and believed it. My fault for not verifying the info before I posted. Oh well. I didn't mean to scare you - I just was trying to look out for a fellow 8'er.
No problem buddy…thanks for looking out for me.

The more lugging, the more carbon, the more carbon, the more problems in the long run.
Didn’t you read the comments (lol)…I’m NOT lugging my engine. But I have heard the carbon build up stuff many times and that’s why I use Chevron 93 and take her to 9K when possible.

I dont know why people obsess so much about the mileage. For a car that produces the elapsed time numbers it does, the MPG is not bad. Not bad at all, by any stretch.

I think people are more upset about the RANGE, due to the size of the fuel tank. 19 MPG in the city beats my wife's 4 cyl turbo Passat, which usually musters about 18.3, according to the computer in the car. Highway is 28, but at constant speeds and babying the throttle.

The Passat produces 180 HP.

That's because many (most?) of us aren't getting anywhere near 19MPG even on the highway and in the city it is much lower still.

most?
I wouldn't say "most"...but definitely enough for people to complain about it. If someone wants a rundown...go to the polls section.

Note: What's up with all these I-4's that suck gas like V8's?

there are many, many, many, many, many variables that effect fuel economy. just about the worst fuel economy comes from sitting in traffic (not moving, using gas), and stop and go traffic. also, flooring it from a stop greatly reduces fuel economy as compared to a slow start. and based off of atlanta traffic, most people floor their cars at lights...and especially those with smaller/less powerful engines because they feel thats the only way to get the car moving.

also, temperature, humidity, levelness of terrain, tire inflation, wheel alignment, weight of vehicle and all the stuff inside it, aerodynamics of the vehicle, gearing of the transmission, type of tire, oil used, type of engine, technology used in the engine...

that's not even a comprehensive list.

Can't wait to get mine and fill up every other day..... I drive 120 miles a day to work and back.

Btw, I fill up every other day already in my SUV. So my habits won't change.

I agree 100%...and like you said, there is more to it also.

I posted this because I was amazed at what I was able to get in the RX8 when I was trying to save gas. I did not expect breaking 20 in the city.

I don't want to make people feel like this is normal or standard city fuel economy but it is possible.

Honestly...I still think driver is FACTOR #1!

Mars1956...120 miles a day....I mean, MY LORD!!! Sorry to hear that...but at least you get to enjoy her often...lol
