Best MOD is putting on miles!
I just got the new Car & Driver and they have a long term test result for the 04 RX-8. They seemed to complain about the same stuff you see on here alot (search beating a dead horse with stick :p )
However when they first tested the car they got 6.6 sec 0-60 and a 1/4 mile in 15.1 seconds
with the stock Bridgestone tires
after 40,000 miles it went 0-60 in 5.9 sec and 1/4 mile in 14.6 seconds
The second time they tested it did have a set of Yokohama Advan Neova AD07 tires.
They do state "Racers say rotary engines get better with age"
The moral of the story? Go out and drive!!

i got my car april 1 2005, now i've got 10,400 miles on it and it's running MUCH stronger that it first did. Hell the other day I got pissed at someone and peeled out in second gear.. not chirp the tires, literally laid rubber until the traction control started bitching. It's NEVER done that before.

I have seen this with every new car I have purchased, even my former lame 115hp 95 Golf. Of course by the time I got rid of it with 220k miles, it had clearly lost power, even after an extensive tuneup. The power increase will fade in time, but in a long time if properly maintainted and tuned up. I look forward to the few future stories a long time from now talking about their RX8 with over 200k miles on them with original engine. Of course this will not be as abundant as an econo car, but there will be a few around I believe.

well, if theres plenty of FBs with over 200 on the clock and lots of n/a FC's with over 200(and the projected life was not nearly that) the rx8's projected life is at least 200k...my guess is the majority willl be over 200k
