Best and Worst Gas Mileage Youve Gotten in Your 8
Just curious of what the Best (and worst if you want to mention it too) gas mileage you guys have seen in your 8's.
Ill start, got 26mpg coming home at 2am on the interstate (wonder how much cold dense air helps mpg...)

Good mileage
Cold air is naturally more dense then warmer air is most situations
Cold air will produce more power, but it takes more power to push a vehicle through cold dense air. So, mileage during the winter months will usually suffer by 3-5% when compared to summer months. (there are other factors that play into this scenario)
Your mpg's looks good

Best: ~22 mpg on my 3 hour trips to and from BFE
Worst: ~4 mpg @ HPDE events
I learned from my first event to top off at the nearby gas station before the day starts. 3/4 tank is just not enough because hitting fuel starvation and being thrown into limp mode on the last (banked left) turn @ under 1/4 tank on your last run is a Bad Thing while going 90 mph!

The yellow gas light is simply a low gas level warning; your car saying "feed me!". Limp mode is entirely different; it's the engine protecting itself by enforcing a low rev limit. With a quarter tank or less of gas, a hard sustained left turn is likely to push the fuel to the right side of the saddle-shaped gas tank (away from the feed line on the left) long enough to keep a sufficient supply from reaching the engine. That's fuel starvation and limp mode for ya; more like the car saying "stop choking me!".

worst: 19
best: 21 --during the break-in
If I drive the car any harder to get worse than 19 mpg the cops will throw me back in that worthless 4 hour "driver retraining" class with all the drug addicts and flunkies and I refuse to do that.
