BHR Glowing orange?

Hey, I just had a new motor installed. O5, 140,000 miles...new spark plugs also.

I got a BHR midpipe with davesport cat and installed it. I looked under the car tonight and noticed that the cat and resonator was glowing orange.

What is causing this? Is this normal? Any ideas?

glowing orange/red means the davesport cat may be toast/clogged.

Mine too. The dealer inspected it and swears it's fine.

I have the cat replaced under warranty cuz it was below efficiency threshold. and its like that since the new cat installed.

Unfortunately that is typically true. The davesports have been known to fail prematurely as well, this is third or fourth time I have heard of that.

Contact BHR.

I'd drop Ray a line via email before doing anything at all.

um, the owner of BHR. Stand up guy. Did you buy it used and/or add the cat yourself?

If you know anything about BHR, davesport cat has nothing to do with them. How would Ray know anything about the davesport conditions? Thats why it says on their website that they hold no warranty against the davesport as it hasnt been tested.....

I will drop him a line anyway and I will post back what he says.

ya know what, ef this.. how about you just drive your 8 into a meadow of tall dry grass. Lets see how well your glowing cat does under those conditions.

I mean give me a fsking break... You asked us if a RED GLOW CAT is normal? Light's on dude.... but nobody's home.

Bottom line is that this is the first time I have went with a high flow cat. After some research I have come to the conclusion that my ignition coils may be going bad - perhaps they're not igniting the sparks right, resulting in fuel being dumped into the cat? I dont know. But my coils are getting time to be replaced - I have 17k on them.

Im replacing them tomorrow. I am also awaiting response from Ray. We will see what the conclusion is - worst scenario, I will just gut the cat.

If you bought your mid pipe directly from BHR and you did so within a reasonable amount of time (like a year or so) then it can't hurt at all to drop "them" a line explaining your situation.

People have speculated that its weak coils and the pig rich mazda fuel maps that kill the stock cat.... Very plausible. I have a set of BHR coils (as well as their mid pipe but with just their resonator) and neither my mid pipe or my resonator glow.

Red molten hot metal is definitely something you want to avoid

Hope this helps,
Shell

Thanks dude. I understand its not normal - It only glows when I get on it, and after i let it sit for 10 minutes idling, the glowing goes away - that's what is confusing me.

I will let you know tomorrow what I find. Thanks for the input.

This story Does-Not-Add-Up?

Real question, is it possible to buy anything from BHR and not know who "Ray" is?

Do you still think jet fuel brought down a building?

Gentleman I'm here to inform you, we are here to take over the government

Ray could be anyone. I didn't know he was talking about Ray from BHR, it wasn't specified. A miscommunication being taken way out of proportion.

To let all you know - the problem after doing some tests was two ignition coils that were failing. This caused unburnt fuel to be dumped into the cat causing it to overheat and glow orange. All 4 ignition coils were replaced today and no glowing

Figured I would let you all know after bad-mouthing me pretty much.
